CASE 11, 11-1/2, 11-1/2L and Cheetah thread
CASE 11, 11-1/2, 11-1/2L and Cheetah thread
Would love to see some CASE 11, 11-1/2, 11-1/2L and Cheetahs.
Would especially like to see some TESTED and pre TESTED era examples if you have them. But, please show them all. I personally collect/ hunt down the pre 1981 examples. My favorite frame. Please post what you have.
EDIT Any idea on the purpose of this knife? In other words, what task was it made to perform. Self defense?
Thanks, Jerry
Here is the 1981 6111-1/2. Discontinued in late 1981 according to the books. Talked to a couple of experts/dealers when I was looking for it and they both commented " Scarce". Maybe since the year they discontinued and possibly reduction in numbers produced based on that. Interesting jig pattern.

Knice knife vieu! Like the handle color. What year is she? Tempted to EDC this frame. Maybe I will someday. Bad Ass knife in my opinion.
Working from 1981 back. Here is the 1980 10 dot (all dots visible) 6111-1/2L...

1979 6111-1/2. I like the white around the edges on this knife.

One more for now. 1978 2 dot 6111-1/2 with some awesome bone handles. Mark side has a lot of white. Pile side, the areas that have white has a blueish tint to them.

Jerry you have some beautiful knives. I have two, one is a 1977 unused and a 1975 that I picked up in a hardware store. I asked if they had any and after looking he pulled out a full box of six. I bought all six and started carrying one and sold the rest to a couple of friends, wish I had kept them all.

Hey Bill,
Beautiful 1997 11-1/2! Pretty bone. I have the stag as shown but don't have the 77' in bone. Gotta pick one up.
As for the 1975, nice EDC. Is the handle delrin? Hard to tell with my eyes. Can see that it still in awesome condition for a carry knife though.

Jerry the 75 is bone, it's got a lot of pocket wear, but has nice color in hand.

Thanks Bill. Makes sense as if it were Delrin it would have the composition shield for that year knife.
Still in damn great shape for a EDC!

Only have two Cases that fit this thread. A well used one, missing the swing guards and a stag handled one that has yet to ride in anyones' pocket.

Hey TreeFarmer,
Thanks for posting.
As far as an EDC, that was my question on original post as far as what purpose this knife was made for. Most, if not all had a specific purpose, except for some that may be considered "all purpose".
As for the redbone at the top of the pic...
Lower tang is hard to see. Any dots below the U.S.A.? If not, any model stamp on the back of the knife? If it is a USA era, wondering if it may be a factory errror "No stamp" or "extra 1". Knice old knife either way.
Jerry

Re: CASE 11, 11-1/2, 11-1/2L and Cheetah thread
zp4ja, Here's 3 more pictures of the knife. As you can see the locking mechanism stands proud when it is open or closed. The pile side is marked 6111 1/2L. There are no dots under the U.S.A., so I guess it is a '65-'69 date.
Aimus Moses had sent a pm with some good suggestions on fixing the ol' girl up a bit, but as I told him, I think she'll just have to rest in her well used condition for now. The knife has no sentimental value to me.
As far as the original purpose of these knives, I don't have a clue. The saber ground blade would be heavy enough to use as a deer knife but I like an additional skinner blade on a knife this size. Got several Case folding hunters, but I carry a Queen 2 blade folding hunter during hunting season, been using it for years. Treefarmer

TreeFarmer,
You can call me Jerry. Beautiful bone on that USA! Thanks for posting additional pics!!!
Here are two 1975 6111-1/2. Bottom knife has some interesting color. Redish bone with dark jigging.
Also, 1974 6111-1/2, bottom 2 pics...

Re: CASE 11, 11-1/2, 11-1/2L and Cheetah thread
I only have 4 Cheetahs as we speak. Only one that is pre 81 and it's a Blue scroll which I believe is very common. The two I have pictured were made in quanities of 100 or less. One is an EX6111 1/2 Giraffe bone and the other is just a 6.5111 1/2 Bone Stag with the 113 year shield. The shield is what makes it rare. It was put on 50 knives only, randomly. I'll try to get some pics of my other knives later today.

Re: CASE 11, 11-1/2, 11-1/2L and Cheetah thread
My guess is when they first came out with the swing guard it was the tactical type knife for the time period-just a fightin knife--I thought K-Bar had a swing guard before Case maybe somebody else knows I do know the K-Bars have always been a little pricey

That was my thought on the knife use also. Only seems logical to me but maybe others will have some opinions.
Thanks, Jerry

On the 1977 Blue Scroll, my records show 19,000 made. Find one with engraved bolsters, you got something there. Only 1000 engraved bolster 1977 Blue Scroll 5111-1/2 were made. That is a low run in that era in my opinion. PM me if someone has one they want to sell.
Very nice knives you have there!!! Can't wait to see your others.
Here is a 1973 7 dot 6111-1/2 with Delrin handles and comp shield. Since 1973 was the year they switched to comp shield, I think they are scarce.

Here's my Blue Scroll Cheetah and my Classic Cheetah. The only Blue Scrolls I have without engraved bolsters are the Cheetah and Trapper.

Two 1972 8 dot 6111-1/2. Might also be 1971 9 dot 6111-1/2???? I love the swing guard on this pattern but very hard to differentiate between a 9 dot and a 8 dot.
Please post what you have.

Re: CASE 11, 11-1/2, 11-1/2L and Cheetah thread
Here are the 1971 "True Cheetahs". Posted elsewhere in the forum but better (still not great) pics and certainly pertinent to this thread...
Top knife in the pics is the 1971' 5111-1/2L "Large Stamp".
Bottom knife in the pics is the 1971' 5111-1/2LSSP "Small Stamp".
I like the both very much as they have unique characteristics, like all stag. LSSP is the knife pictured in Steve's book. The 5111-1/2L was given to me from my Dad. Both have nice/gnarly stag in my book.
No more knives like this out there that suit this post???
Regards, Jerry
