Newest Case Pick-Ups

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Newest Case Pick-Ups

Post by 1967redrider »

I just picked these two up at the Harrisonburg show for a price I couldn't refuse. 1974 6111 1/2L and an XX 6217 loom fixer.

Got a question, do you think the XX 6217 is bone or red bone? Both are unsharpened but the loom fixer does have a little spider web on the back of the main blade, no biggie though. Thanks for your thoughts!

Rider, that is pretty interesting - all the mid-1970's era Case Loom Fixers I have seen (and the one I own) have wood handles. Yours is the first with bone that I have seen. Nice knives! OH

Even though I only have one (KA-BAR) I'm rather partial to Loom Fixers (also known as Half-Hawks) and that is a very nice one. Congratulations.

Here's one from 1975. He says the handles are jigged Staminawood.

I can't make out the tang stamp on your 6217 but I think it's a XX era 40-65 and it's red bone.

Got it from a guy in Oklahoma. I have been looking for a First Model Red Stag 5254 for a long time when I found this one. I saw another one at the Dalton, Ga. Show

wazu,

Yep, XX 1940-64 tang stamp. My reference books say bone or red bone, always a tricky call for me. The snap in those blades is amazing. Thanks! ::tu::

jlw257,

That red stag is sweet. ::nod::

Re: Newest Case Pick-Ups

Post by 1967redrider »

The Internet has been out at my place for the last 10 days, so I brought the ol' Kindle to Panera. Been dying to post some pictures of my newest Case auction pick-ups. Got a Case 6383 from 1978, a 6380 from 1985, an XX pearl pen knife, a HAWG (as Mr. Blister would say) of a display knife from 1990 and a Case Bradford, PA 6294 Big Cigar jack. From the auction pictures I could tell the cigar had been cleaned and profiled but thought for sure it was a LP XX, maybe in red bone. Well, turns out to be some pretty sweet green bone. It does have a hairline pin crack on the left mark side handle but I really love this knife. ::ds::
