Case & Case related knives over 100 years old

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Nice knife.

Tom
I would say the great majority of them would date 1915-20 however I have seen a few tang stamped WRCase & Sons which might date that particular issue slightly before the Bradford era. I don’t believe they were produced early in the WR Case era.

I would date them 1915-20 although I have seen some with a WRCase & Sons Blade. They are probably earlier but I don’t believe they were made early in the WRPeriod. I answered this earlier, don’t know why it didn’t post. Edit, looks like it did post, lol

Picked up this W.R. Case & Sons large coke bottle C61050, large knife 5 1/2" closed. 9 1/2" open. Still has good snap and no play. I'm thinking 1905 to 1914.

Thank you all for the comments, appreciated. Does anyone know what the C before the pattern number designates, I can't find it in any of the books I have.

Thanks Harold, found it finally with some help, C designates the end cap or bottom bolster so crown makes sense.

Well used, but very tight and functional Case & Sons Bradford Jack Knife in tortoise shell dress. I’m having a very difficult time finding anything similar on the net.

Buckshot that looks like a tadpole. What's the closed length of the knife?

It’s 3 3/8” closed. As far as I can tell, it’s also the oldest tang stamp I can find on the net.

I didn’t think the tadpole had bolsters on each end….

Nice find! Aside from what you’ll find here on AAPK there is little info on the web for knives that old. Case & Sons Bradford PA stamp was used circa 1903-1905 according to Sargent’s. There is a picture of a knife similar to yours, but having candy stripe celluloid covers, on page 73 of Sargent’s 7th Edition. Says the pattern is “unknown”.

(BTW you’re correct, the Tadpole does not have a cap bolster).

The tadpole did have a cap bolster in the era of Case and Sons which is 1905 to 1914 but your knife is to long to be a tadpole. Possibly a 62020 or a .6212.

Great info! Thanks guys. Here’s another oldie. Each blade has a different tang stamp. Back of the big blade has GS233. Great condition for a knife over 100 yo.
