Re: Ode To The 07
So far, I've been able to stand strong. Right now it's a stand-off between the Wharncliffe and those handles (not that they're really super unappitizing). No way of knowing how long that will last.

Listening to some good blues got me in the mood. So, I went back to the basics on this one. What can I say?...I'm a sucker for a red shield.

Re: Ode To The 07
My friend came by today looking to do some knife trading. These aren't necessarily ones I would have bought for myself, but this is what I ended up with. The Giraffe and the Shamrock covers look a bit cartoonish to me, but I do like the clover leaf bolster stamp. I already have a Mediterranean Blue Damascus 107W, so now it looks like I have two. At least they're not identical twins.
I guess when it comes to knife trading, sometimes it's more about the fun of swapping than about the knives themselves.

Re: Ode To The 07
Thanks, John. I gotta admit, I do like the Devin Thomas "Ladder Damascus" much more than the "Forged Wrought Iron" Damascus Case used on some of their other Damascus knives. Since I now have two Mediterranean Blue 107Ws, if you're interested in getting one for yourself this could be the time to do it. Just let me know; I'm sure we could work something out.Lansky1 wrote:Gorgeous damascus mini-T's Q

I think it will be much happier living with you, jerryd...I'm glad it found a home where it will receive the appreciation it so rightly deserves. Now if you could just find the Bengal Tiger and the Zebra patters you could start your own private safari zoo! Found a Tiger but it's too expensive for this month. Re: Ode To The 07
This is a Queen #51T, not a Case 07...but, it is a mini trapper so I think I'll go ahead and post it here where it should feel right at home alongside its 07 Mini T cousins.

Re: Ode To The 07
It seems the OCD Mini Trapper Monkey that usually rides on my back was instead on the Mini T sobriety wagon during the month of July...I actually sold more 07s than I bought...can't remember the last time that happened (or if it ever did).
But, the 07 OCD Monkey is like a bad rash...just when you think you've got it under control, it comes roaring back with a vengeance.
It really didn't take all that much for Mini T Monkey to fall off the wagon. In fact, he actually leaped off the wagon with shockingly little hesitation or restraint, shrieking impatiently, after spotting a 207W that I didn't yet have in my collection (Periwinkle Bone). Just one small sip to "wet the whistle" and, like so many times before, he ended up taking me on another out-of-control, no-holds-barred, full-throttle, white-knuckle, crash-and-burn Mini T bender.
The smoke has yet to completely clear so I'm not entirely sure what the full extent of the damage will amount to. But, here's some of the debris I managed to salvage from the smoldering ruins (of my pocketbook) OCD Monkey left in his wake of wanton destruction.
I fear this is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg; there may very well be more as yet unaccounted for and/or still on the way. I'm no longer surprised at what the Monkey drags in...it's the sheer volume that astounds me. Apparently, 07 OCD Monkey lacks all semblance of discipline or self-control. Tragic.

You are very welcome, Steve. Having an addiction is much more enjoyable when it is shared with others!
After a period of buying, selling & swapping, OCD Monkey becomes restless and agitated if things start to get the least bit disorganized. So, in an attempt to quell his fear of chaos and certain doom, I had to make sure all his favorite 07s (107W and 207W) were accounted for and in good order. Fortunately, he's not quite as OCD when it comes to the non-Wharncliffe 07s. As long as they're organized according to some kind of system (handle color, handle material, year of manufacture, etc.) he's OK.

Re: Ode To The 07
Speaking of "variety"...
Although there's absolutely nothing wrong with accumulating multiples of certain favorite models, after collecting the same pattern for awhile one naturally begins to seek knives with unique characteristics in order to keep the collection interesting. Variety is, as they say, the spice of life.
Here's an 07 I picked up recently that has slanted bolsters, a minor alteration to the established norm which gives a different aspect to the Case Mini T and is a first for my collection.
The blade etch, "Pilot Test Run," suggests that this particular design was a first for Case as well. As this is the first and only Case 07 I've ever seen with slanted bolsters, I wonder if this design ever went into production. Does anyone else have an 07 (or seen them) with slanted bolsters?

Those bolsters do set it off Q.
Re: Ode To The 07
I agree, Floyd. I think the slanted bolsters complement the curves of the Mini T frame quite well. I wish Case had made (would make) more slant-bolster 07s; I really like the optics of this design.doglegg wrote:Those bolsters do set it off Q.

Re: Ode To The 07
Snagged this 107w for dirt cheap off eBay ... was really rough & had a chunk missing on one of the bone sides and the blade tip was rounded over. It was a color I didn't have, so I offered the guy half what he had it advertised for & he accepted ... got it for $20 including shipping. Had to tighten the blade, buff it out & after filling the chip with epoxy, the patch is smooth as silk. Even has really nice snap. I bet this one will get more pocket time than my minty 107w's ...
pffffft that's not a knife ......... now THAT'S a knife !! Crocodile Dundee

John, you turned that sows ear into a silk purse. Excellent job on the blade and the patch.
