Ode To The 07

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

jerryd, those are nice cap-lifter 07s. If only you'd had them back when you were in college, you would've been the most popular dude at all the frat parties, I think.
Although I generally tend to avoid synthetic handle materials, I'm starting to develop a liking for that Kirinite. Good looking stuff. I see that Case has just released a Smooth Caramel Swirl 207W with a Spay & Wharncliffe blade configuration which is unusual. Monkey like, Monkey want!!! ::nod::
Sorry to disappoint but I didn't go to college until I was in my 40's & then it was a 2 yr Jr college. Had enough credits for an Associate's but they weren't all in the right place. Never liked school & ended up going to school of one flavor or another for my entire career. Except for Jr College, it was always a company school.

In a collection of over 200 there must be room for one with Wharncliffe and spey blades and another with a cap lifter/flat head.

Queen made some standard size Trappers with D2 long spey and Wharncliffe blades. The Wharncliffe blades had especially fine points. I don't know what job they were designed for. Maybe they were unusual to appeal to collectors.

Considering they have sheep's foot blades, caplifters would have added more to our 5507 Mini-Trappers than their coping blades add.

Gorgeous work Bighead. Thanks for showing this stuff we wouldn't otherwise see. Thanks for improving the knives you rehandle. That is fabulous and you have improved the knife world and this site and all these guys collections that the knives are going into. Great job, kudos, keep them coming and thanks for all the drool material. You're an artist with the tusk.
Thanks for the compliments.

Well, I tried to hold off buying this new Mini Trapper at least until next month. I searched eBay and all the usual Case dealers' websites looking for the best price; but, apparently, this model can only be purchased directly from Case.com. I don't know how many were made but I couldn't take The Monkey incessantly screeching in my ear that they would run out of stock if I waited (and if that happened, I knew I'd never hear the end of it). So, as usual, I caved and bought one. ::tired::

I really like it and I'm glad I did. ::nod::

Was really trying NOT to buy any more knives at least until this dadgum inflation cools off a bit but I've been searching for one of these Johnny Cash Mini Trappers with the guitar shield for quite a while; apparently, there aren't very many out there being put up for sale. Finally found this used one and just decided to go ahead and snag it while I could even though the seller wanted more for it than I wanted to pay (as usual).

I like the smooth chestnut bone as well as the Wharncliffe secondary (of course), but to be perfectly honest, I mostly bought it for the shield. ::nod::
I see that it has only four tuning pegs and a short neck which leads me to believe it's actually a ukulele; so, it should feel right at home here in Hawaii. (The Monkey has already signed up for Hula dancing lessons!) :D

The shield has the look of a ukulele to me as well. That notwithstanding, it's a sweet knife, complete with the appeal of smooth chestnut bone! ::tu::

Love those 6107Ws, Ivoryman. Glad to hear your daughter enjoys and uses them, too. "Train up a child in the way [she] should go and when [she] is old, [she] will not depart from it." (one of the few scriptures I still remember from Sunday School)

The back orders at Shepherd Hills finally came in and this beauty showed up in my mailbox yesterday. The picture doesn't come close to showing it's beauty. No matter how hard you try, it's impossible to capture the sparkle in an image. You will just have to get one for yourself to see what it truly looks like. Love it. Love it. Love it.

Don't say that too loudly, jerryd, I wouldn't want The Monkey to get any ideas. ::paranoid::

That Dichrolam is quite stunning, even in your photos; it looks like Peacock Appaloosa on steroids! I imagine it's even more stunning IRL. I was sorely tempted to spring for one (still am, in fact), but I'm trying to limit new knife acquisitions so I can save up for a new computer (this one is showing it's age and becoming more obstinate despite all my TLC and tireless efforts to prolong its life).

Well, I put in a bid and won this G6107 for exactly .01 over the next highest bidder. Who says pennies don't count? ::sotb::

Apparently, this is what passes for modern Case "Greenbone" (notice the "G" in the pattern number lest you mistake it for something else, like Amber, which wouldn't be too hard to do, IMO). To my eye, it looks nothing at all like the original Greenbone on pre-1980s Case knives. I wonder what happened to the original Greenbone recipe and why they can't seem to reproduce it on modern knives? ::undecided::

Loooooooooove the color BIGHEAD, usually I feel like Winterbottom is yellowish, washed out, light color. Yours has deep, rich color and I like it. Way to go, beautiful knife, you do great work and improve the knife world one knife at a time. Kudos to you.
