88 Tang Stamp

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Hey guys...What happened to this tang stamp...looks like it was double struck?...didn’t notice it before I bought it...truth be told I would have probably bought it anyway.

Yes the spear point blade does appear to be double struck. In most cases an error like that doesn't really affect the value one way or the other. The errors that seem to increase values seem to be continuous runs of a small number of knives that weren't caught before release. Like the 1980 6172 with the 1970 ten dot stamp or the 61111 1/2 with the extra one.

Do a search here for “factory errors”. You’ll find numerous posts and pictures. It happens. It rarely ever changes the value for the better, and some won’t buy them at all for concern of fakery.
