Serialized Appaloosa Bone 1979 (one dot) A6220 knives

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Serialized Appaloosa Bone 1979 (one dot) A6220 knives

Post by shawneewarrior52 »

Was looking at some of my knives today and came across the 1979 A6220 with serial number on the bolster in the 1600 range. A brief look on the web revealed a number of these for sale, one with a serial number above 12000. Does someone know the history of this series? How many were produced in total? Was this series possibly a special order by Smokey Mountain Knife Works which was then marketed through their business? These are lovely little peanut knives in my opinion, even if there are a lot of them around. I am always thankful for everyone's input.

That sounds like the original A6220 "Appaloosa" peanut that was released by Case in 1978...though evidently being such a large run some were made in 79. Appaloosa etching on the clip blade.

15,000 were made and each was shipped in a clear plastic box that was inside of a small Case "Pumpkin" box.

Released directly by Case, not an SFO for SMKW.
