Why no love for the 6214?

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Why no love for the 6214?

Post by rugmar »

I got this little gem out of the XX era from Mr. knifeaholic and after a little cleaning, rubbing and sharpening I am really starting to feel it's attraction. So I have to ask, why no love for the 6214?

rugmar, that no love for the 6214 must be on your side of the creek. If you would have said Russlock, I could understand. ::poke:: :)

Make that main a clip instead of a spear and I'd have a bit more love for it.

But that's me.

I guess maybe just nobody talks much about them. I hunted for one at the Blade show in Atlanta last month and only found two examples, a rough black and a delrin. I actually prefer the spear blade so that's what I was asking for. Maybe there could have been a few with the clip blade.

I know there is one available from knifeaholic that's very nice with a clip blade right now. I think it's from XX era also.

Thanks for your input.

The 3-3/8" length doesn't bother you? When I win the Lottery, I'm going to add the 14 & the 14½ to my medium jack collection.

3 3/8 you say? That's about perfect for an EDC in my opinion. I have a severe lack of true Jacks. I only have a handful, and most are Serpentine and based on Stockman frames. Barehead Jacks--only one, a quite banged up Cattaraugus.

I really like that pattern.

I don't mind the 3-3/8 length. It's a little on the small side but still very useful most most things I would use it for. I got a 9mm for the really heavy work :)

3-1/2 to 4 is my preference.

Just looked in "Steve's book" and noticed the 6214 with a clip should be stamped 6214 1/2. :) Learn somthin' everyday, now if I could just remember all this good information. (the #9 Trader's even lists a 5214 1/2 in the Tested era.)

I'm hunting one of those as well. Love the 10 dot knives. knifeaholic has a 10 dot delrin for sale but it's far from mint. It would make a nice user and the price is right.

What a difference a few weeks make. Since my original post I have acquired two more little beauties from the XX era. Shown here in a picture with the original one I showed here a few weeks back. Found these while looking for a 10 dot that WinchesterM21 got me thinking about. That one is out there too, just elusive to this point.

You know treefarmer, you may be right. My wife agrees with you for sure. :D

I’m not convinced it’s a bad thing though. We could have hobbies that we spend more time and money doing and not have anything to show for our time. Like golf for instance ::barf::

It is amazing how much my interest in knives has increased just since I made the decision to display my accumulation. That was back at the first of the year and now I think about knives much more than I have in years and I been accumulating them for 40 years or so. I guess I am hooked dogonnit!!

Actually you need two 10 dots if you want both knives made in 1970'. They made bone and also a delrin knife that year and mint ones are not an easy snag.

I had both mint but I gifted one to another collector to fill a 10 Dot collection. Still have a pic of both here somewhere.

I agree. Great Jack pattern.

1974 6214-1/2 Delrin and a 1970 6214 jigged bone. I infrequently carry the 1974 but have never carried the 1970 (prefer the Clip main blade to the Spear). OH

Old Hunter,

I feel some envy creeping in my friend.

I love that 10 dot with the spear blade ::tu:: ::tu::

Thanks for showing those two. I too would carry that delrin handled knife in a skinny minute.
