Case Terminology

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Case Terminology

Post by Drukai »

I have heard the term “Case Swamp Rat” knife tossed around in forums. What exactly is the swamp rat a specific pattern or a collectors nickname for a certain pattern? Thanks.

Not a term I've ever heard. I did a search on the Case Collectors Club forum - nothing there either. ::shrug::

There is a Swamp Rat Knife made by another company unrelated to Case. See Google for more info.

Can't say I've ever heard the term, either.
At least not related to Case.

Not specific to Case, rat is short for Muskrat which Case has made a lot of in three sizes. I'll risk two guesses. Either the writer using swamp rat does not like Muskrats in general or it might refer to a bone dye color. ::shrug::

I don't know, but I have seen the name Swamp Rat used for the 087 Stockman. Both 2 blade and 3 blade. I always thought it was a regional thing.
