A little something to carve the Thanksgiving turkey with...

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Wow! I'm wondering, is that factory pearl, or has the set been re-handled?

It's definitely factory. They DID make them, and If you had the set in hand you would not question it.

The only reference I can find for the set is in Case household cutlery catalog #61 from 1950. Retail price per set was $75. They sold the same set in stag for $55.

To put that price in perspective, at that time the stag folding hunter pattern 5265 retailed for $5.50 (same for the 5488 stag jumbo congress) and the stag knife-axe combo with sheath retailed for $17.00.

A typical smaller Case pocket knife like the barlow retailed for $2.00.

No listing of this set in price lists 1952 and later, so only in production for a short time.

Looking at the CPI inflation calculator, that set would cost $831 today. Holy mother of pearl! Thus, for something that expensive, these sets have to be super-rare.

Very nice....that is what I need to buy for my wife to become a Case fan....she just rolls her eyes at all the other knives that I lay out on the table next to me and take pictures of....and open and close them while I watch football...and stare at them in the morning to decide which will be carried.

knifeaholic, Congratulations on having such a spectacular carving set. Any turkey should be honored to be carved with that.
