Is this knife worth it?

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Seller says blade has slight wobble when open. I think I'd like to have it but...

I'm in no way an expert on this subject, but are you sure its legit.
From the pictures it looks a little hokey to me.
I look forward to opinions of the Case experts.

If I am off base, my apologies to all.

Believe I’d pass on that one. I don’t like the looks of it. ::td::

It doesn’t look like a Tested era knife to me. Might be a re-stamped Case Classic. In other words, a fake Tested. Made closer to 1995 than 1925. I could be wrong but like I said, I’d pass. JMO. It’s your money.

Thank you all for the responses. I see that all dealers have been budding but now one collector just bid.

The seller is the son in law of an old friend of mine who had a huge knife collection who died last year. He collected all kinds of knives but his SIL doesn't know much about them. After the owner died his SIL and grandson said they would not sell any of the collection but I guess his daughters have decided to sell. The SIL who is selling is not trying to deceive, he just doesn't know knives well and there were over a thousand in the collection.

I sent a message to the seller asking to see what’s under that swing guard on the front tang. I would bet there is either a date or dot’s or dots and x’s. I wouldn’t buy this knife without seeing that first. Or can you all date this without seeing the rest of the front tang stamp?

Why would the blade on a "new" knife have wobble?

Is it the angle of the picture, or does the blade look short for the frame?

This seller has put up some good knives over the past couple of months.

I believe that the posted knife is a Case Classic.

However, I do not see the date stamp which is (on Case Classics) always the year itself....like 19 USA 90...never Case's standard dotting or dot/x stamps.

Definitely not an old knife.

I agree with earlier opinions that the knife you are asking about is the Case Classic C51050L from 1990. If you like the pattern and you are patient, good examples of this knife at a reasonable price pop up several times per year. The Case Tested XX C51050L rendition of this knife is very difficult to find.

For reference, an example of each is provided below. The factory bail on the original C51050L makes it even rarer.

If you look at knives long enough and study the genuine old ones, the tang stamp is the last thing you need to look at to tell if it’s really an old one. I’m glad you asked before bidding.

Jerry thanks for showing those. They’re fine examples! ::tu:: One of the first things that I noticed on the OP knife was that the long pull doesn’t look the same as the pull on a Tested era knife. If you look closely you can see the difference between the two knives in your pictures.

Has all the classic look of a new Case Classic. Nothing old about it.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.
