Guess the Case ?

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Depending on its length ot could be an 18 or a 47. From the pictures it looks like white synthetic aka "shrinky-dink" handle covers.

The main blade looks like the one on a 18 , didn't think of the 47 ? I have seen pics of a white synthetic 18 , a few post says rare , think they was late 60's ?

They were made with white covers for years, not just 1972. Not sure exact year but at some point Case changed to whit delrin, which doesn't shrink as much as the older white synthetic. 1972 is probably about the time of the conversion I'm thinking, plus or minus a year or two. Steve Pfeiffer probably knows when.

Here's a 4318 I have. Also have a 4347 somewhere IIRC.

4318 Sh Sp. Notorious for handle shrinkage, right up to the time that the 4318 was discontinued in 1972. For whatever reason, Case's white handle material was an older type of plastic, not Delrin, even after Delrin was introduced in the 60's. The changeover of the white handles to Delrin was soon after that, but by that time almost all of Case's white handled patterns were discontinued.

Paul, that knife would be a great candidate for a re-handle. The rest of the knife looks good, and if it operates as it should, putting some new handles on that would be a great idea.

Several years ago I bought an "XX" 4318 from Steve. The back handle had a white strip of paint or something on it and it would not come off. The rest of the knife was in great shape. I sent it to Kaleb (Muskrat Man), along with some Orange Giraffe bone, and he re-handled for me. I still have it.
