Re: Remington knives with an etch
Are there any numbers on that beauty?
Re: Remington knives with an etch
Since I’m in NC, I felt like I had to have this one. Remington moved their headquarters to Madison, NC, in 1996, but I don’t know if this knife was actually made there or if any have ever been made there. Trying to find out.

This one caught my eye. Love the green dymondwood. It really stands out, albeit, my photos don't do it justice. This knife was a Remington / Buck collaboration and were made at the Buck factory, Post Falls. A nice sized EDC knife.
PS: Those are not flaws on the handles...it's 'highlights' from the sun.

The ones I have. The French Ivory is the only one I've ever seen or heard of. it's the one pictured in Jim Sargent's book. There's supposed to be a cocobolo version , but I've never seen or heard of one?

Re: Remington knives with an etch
I believe these knives are Pal part knives from stock and whatever stamp they found. It's definitely not an attempt to fool Remington collectors. These all have the same wrongly numbered pruning blade. I see Remington frames and bone on two, with Pal bone on one. All seem to have a Remington spey. Last one I copied the picture ( wish I had bought it too) from eBay a few years ago.
Opinions please.

All great
Re: Remington knives with an etch
Thanks Keith, it's not easy wading into the waters on this forum.
I wish I'd have thought to get Jim Sargent's opinion on those I think came from Pal. I was curious for the opinions of the Remington collectors here about those knives.
I did ask him if that R3855 was the one in his book and he said it was. It came from a collection of farmers jacks from the NE.

Re: Remington knives with an etch
Lyle, your French Ivory Farmers Jack is truly special. I also talked to Jim back about ten years ago when he was still active in trading knives. He verified yours was in his book and was 100% the real deal. I know you never will but I would love to buy or trade for your French Ivory.
John
Re: Remington knives with an etch
Thanks John for the confirmation, I enjoyed talking to Jim. He seemed to enjoy talking about his helicopter piloting days.
I do still enjoy my farmers. I'm curious why we never see another R3855 or an R3858. If they're listed we should see some examples in some condition, but I've never heard of any more, you only see the R3853s?

Re: Remington knives with an etch
Lyle, there are a few Unicorns out there like your FJ, the Scout leader with hat shield in Pyremite, extremely rare and I’ve only seen one. It belongs to one of our fellow members to AAPK. Another rare knife is the Bullet R1613 and R1615. Take care and remember if you ever sell that beautiful French Ivory FJ , I’m your guy!!!

Re: Remington knives with an etch
Lyle, by the way , I really miss discussing knives with Jim. He was a true gentleman and so kind. I had been bothering him with questions since I was just a kid. He was always willing to take time to help out. I knew him for almost 50 years. Special man.
John
Re: Remington knives with an etch
We call it French ivory, but it's listed as pyremite? Apparently nobody has seen a cocobolo handled farmer either.
John (1967redrider) was who got me looking to match up the knife to the one in Jim's book. I hadn't thought about it.
