Flea Market R1823

The Remington Corporation and the knives that they built have influenced the U.S. cutlery industry more than nearly any other manufacturer. From the time America was settled, to the end of WWI, American knife companies struggled to compete with Britain and German imports, but events that occurred during and after the First World War led to a great change in this phenomenon. Unprecedented opportunities arose, and Remington stepped up to seize the moment. In the process, they created some of today's most prized collectables. In an ironic twist, the next World War played the greatest role in ending the company’s domination of the industry.

Flea Market R1823

Post by Bfeldman »

Hello folks, I picked up this R1823 this past weekend which let to an afternoon spent reading up on the storied model. Based on the fact that this one doesn’t have a number stamped I’m assuming it’s one of the ones made for Wrigley. Is it true that those were all made in 1925? I

Cool pick up Bfeldman, wonderful old bone and a lot of the main blade left. Interesting to find out about the Wrigley connection. ::tu:: ::nod::

I have one like that. How long is your's? Mine is 3 5/8".
How do you associate that number with your knife?
There are no numbers stamped on mine.
I like that long nail nick on the pen.

The R1823 possibly could be the highest produced pattern that Remington made. Stamped, unstamped, etched and unetched. Many companies had them made for there companies for giveaway knives. Here is some examples I have. Some of the shields can be rather rare.

RFJ-Pretty much all of the information I have on this knife comes from this site. I did track down this article from Oregon knife club that helps ID the specifics. http://www.oregonknifeclub.org/Newsletter%200701.pdf
