This doesn't seem to match any of the Remington charts I could find?

Is it the USA that you can’t find in your search ?
I’ve seen it before and have a few examples , the USA is usually below the tang so most are unseen . I believe it’s a very early stamp .

The tang appears to have been ground. Also, a heat mark is visible on the lower ring side of the tang. The tang stamp appears to be double struck. I say this from your photo and an in person inspection would be much clearer.

Thanks - it is both the USA at the bottom and also combined with the periods in the U.M.C. that I couldn't find in the charts.

Just from the stamp photo, it looks iffy.

Sounds like it is a good thing I lost that auction! If it is fake, I'm a bit surprised at that seller - they are one of the most well known knife sellers on ebay and I don't recall anyone previously having a problem with them. I suppose with the volume of old knives they sell, something might just slip through.

It looks hand drawn.

Is it possible to get more pictures, of the rest of the knife? That might be helpful in determining authenticity.

Yup, I agree with Red. From the picture, the tang stamp looks like "rotary tool artistry" to me. ::teary_eyes::

In addition to what has already been mentioned, the letters "U.S.A" are in the wrong place. It might be a knife made from Remington parts, but stamp is not factory original (for an old Remington).

Here's the completed auction: https://www.ebay.com/itm/234292276173?h ... 368ce86bcd

You will have to drill down into the "original listing" to see all the pictures.

The OP knife in question may have been altered but the Remington inside a circle with USA below it does exist like I mentioned in my first post , it’s a very early 1920s stamp .
Here are 3 separate examples I own . Most are hidden by the tang and never seen .

Thank you fof showing those - I had not seen that variation before. A couple of these examples also seemed to show the "wide" channel at the top of the circle like the OP knife.

The OP knife pictures look like a perfectly legitimate Remington. And for $43 somebody got a nice old Remington whittler. “Read the knife”.

Might be a volume issue or possibly just doesn’t know but I have seen and experienced issues with this seller. Earlier I discussed several issues with the tang stamp that just did not look correct. Not sure why it was done because the knife body and blades appear to be a Remington but the tang has without a doubt been messed with. Frankly the knife was ruined.
