Remington R-3 Big Game
Remington R-3 Big Game
I just acquired a Remington R-3 (Camillus made). It is near mint in the box with the sheath, sharpening steel and paperwork. It is a 2 blade lock back. The secondary blade is a bone saw but without a gut-hook. I have not found other pics of the R-3 without the gut-hook. The tang stamp on the back of the clip blade shows; 'R-3 Patented'. I have seen other pics without the 'Patented'. Wondering if there are different versions? And if anyone knows about when the change was made either way.

The one I have has the gut hook. I posted this 1996 ad of a different but similar knife a while back, click on link and scroll down.jwegman wrote: ↑Sun Feb 12, 2023 4:18 pm I just acquired a Remington R-3 (Camillus made). Interesting. It is similar. Thanks for posting that.
Re: Remington R-3 Big Game
So the question remains. Does anyone know when the R-3 version without the gut-hook was made? And if Camillus switched from the gut-hook to the plain bone saw or the other way around?
Thanks everyone.
Thanks everyone.
Re: Remington R-3 Big Game
With a high degree of probability, this knife was assembled from left over parts in 2005-2006. At that time, Camillus made many of these Frankenknives and sold them via SMKW.
The second version (less probable) is that the knife was assembled from parts purchased at auction after Camillus' bankruptcy in 2007.
Your knife contains a saw from Camillus #892 and #893.

Thanks for the info. The frankenknife scenario makes sense.
