I have a first generation FNR with Washington Barlow, Country Gentleman. I can’t find any information on whether stainless or carbon steel was used on this knife. I tried a magnet test, but it was inconclusive. A magnet sticks to this blade ,but so does a stainless blade that I am sure is stainless.
Any of you all know? It would help me out. Thanks,
Mark

As you observed, most if not all, stainless steels that can be hardened are magnetic. Put a tiny drop of gun cold blue on a discrete spot. Stainless will not discolor. If need be the blued spot on carbon steel can be sanded off. In my experience using only metal polish does not completely remove the bluing from carbon steel. Maybe if you rubbed long enough it might.
