Novelty Cutlery Co. Canton Ohio.

Post by porter2226 »

I've been trying to find more information on this straight razor I inherited from my 2nd great-grandfather. He lived between 1886 and 1968 so the razor would have to date to that era. I've attached a photo of the whole knife as well as one of just the blade. Unlike a lot of the Novelty Cutlery Co. knives I can find online, it does not appear to have a mark and the manufacturer is listed on the center of the blade instead. I was curious if anyone could help me identify it better.

The only one with a comparable mark I could find was this ebay listing: https://www.ebay.com/itm/174272972910?m ... olid=10050

According to Goins they were in business 1879-1948. Nice razor and keepsake.

Novelty was one of several companies that offered celluloid picture handles knives and razors. Your razor doesn't have a picture type handle but it does have a very nice inlaid tang meaning that the material used on the razor handle is also used on the blade tang. Nice razor!
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.
