Re: Latest Canal Street Additions
Found a Canal Street doctor's knife in Amber Jig Bone recently. When they say "polished" they mean mirror polished. That stockman in reclaimed Chestnut posted earlier in this thread is polished to the point it reflects like a mirror. These gentlemen took pride in their work, gorgeous knives.

Re: Latest Canal Street Additions
redrider, that one is indeed a looker. You did well.
Re: Latest Canal Street Additions
Looking good!
Re: Latest Canal Street Additions
I think with all the hoopla over GEC knives, the Canal Street stuff got overlooked by many. I've been very impressed with them ever since I held the first one I bought and still carry today.

Thanks Phil, got another CSC / Union Cutlery on it's way. I'll post photos when I get it.

Re: Latest Canal Street Additions
I guess you could say I got roped by the blue rope. Ever since I picked up that Red Trout knife I have been looking for more of the blue rope jigging, and it is hard to find. I found this one and negotiated a fair deal, the seller's pictures not mine.

Re: Latest Canal Street Additions
I have the same 'One Arm' knife. The 'hook' at the tip of blade is too shallow to allow the blade to be opened by catching the tip on your belt. The piece scooped out of blade tip needs to be deeper.
Red, yours looks about the same as mine. Does yours open using the 'One Arm' method ?

Re: Latest Canal Street Additions
Got the knife and it does open using the one armed method, hooking it in your pants pocket corner. Maybe the kick on yours is shorter? Posting a picture of it along with it's brother from another mother, the Red Trout Boy's knife. I REALLY love that blue rope jigging!kootenay joe wrote:I have the same 'One Arm' knife. When i get back home in about 1 week i will take pics of my blue rope Union Razor knife. Not sure if blade sits a bit low or if the scoop out of the blade tip is too shallow.

Re: Latest Canal Street Additions
Here is my Union Razor knife with blue rope bone handles. It is marked "Prototype" on the right front bolster. It arrived with essentially no edge grind, done for show not for use, which i believe is correct for a true prototype knife. Eric A. very kindly offered to 'tune it up' for me and it now has a sharp edge ready for use but Eric informed me it is not really intended to shave your beard.
The spring tension is modest, perhaps a '5' which i think is right for a single blade trapper. I cannot get it to open by the one hand method. The scoop at the blade tip seems too shallow ? to catch onto a belt or pocket corner.
Or, is there is some technique involved that i am not employing ?

That looks very odd kj. Never saw one so shallow; almost looks like it was broken off.

Re: Latest Canal Street Additions
KJ,
What does the kick look like on your knife? Wondering if maybe the prototype was later modified when they went into production to clean up functionality issues? Just a thought.

Mine is lightly stamped and angles of kick might be slightly different, but it looks basically the same as yours.

Re: Latest Canal Street Additions
I have a couple of these Canal Street knives I have been having difficulty getting a value on. I have 2 of the Ribbon Candy Mica handle (red). Numbered at 099 and 067. I'd like to know how many were made like this and I have just the one in the doctor's knife style but did not receive any info on what the handle is called.
