I love the rope jigged blue bone.Sharpnshinyknives wrote: ↑Sat May 30, 2020 9:20 pm Got another blue rope jigged Red Trout knife. Got a picture of one that Eric said was made by Schrade w/ the same blue rope jigging. I think these knives are better this year. Not sure what’s different but I think the quality is a bit better.

That is just incredible. Nice choice.

Re: Red Trout Knives
The blue rope jigged sheepfoot showed up today, fits in nicely with the other two I have.
Pocket, fixed, machete, axe, it's all good!

Very nice group of knives. Love that blue rope jigging.

Re: Red Trout Knives
Received these two yesterday - I'm absolutely thrilled with both of them (my first Red Trouts and Canal Streets) ...
Re: Red Trout Knives
Is that the Snakeskin Micarta? That is really nice. Eric really had a lot of different covers.

Yes, it's the Snakeskin. It's pretty neat stuff, there were a ton of interesting choices.

Re: Red Trout Knives
AAPK member Chase showed me a knife with that Snakeskin Micarta on Monday last week, it really is some pretty cool looking scale material.

Re: Red Trout Knives
Here is a picture of the knife 1967redrider is referring to. Sorry, the only picture I have immediately available. This is tooled leather dyed to look like a Boa Constrictor. Only one made! It's a Squeeze Lock Back knife

Re: Red Trout Knives
Tom that's the snakeskin micarta, the only leather handles we did at CS were the peened leather handles on the NRA Knife of the Year bowie knives. The micarta looks good on the squeeze, got a little more real estate to work with there

Eric - you did a fabulous job on these! Every one I've seen has been awesome. I've been carrying the snakeskin every day since I got it. The basket weave is super cool, but almost seems too nice to carry. I'll get over it and put it in my pocket one of these mornings
Re: Red Trout Knives
Glad you like 'em wingerac!
That was a good move hitting the micarta with a bit of mineral oil. I think the cleaning process dries the rag fibers a bit but the oil brought it right back. The basketweave is definitely cool, it's the most intricate jigging of any bone I've used.

Eric,
Thank you for clarifying that the knife handles were Snakeskin Micarta...I was mis-lead when I bought the knife, being told it was tooled leather.
I learned a valuable lesson here!

Re: Red Trout Knives
Well I received my Red Trout yesterday. I had ordered a "Dark Red Pressed Stag Jigged Bone"
I pretty certain that this is a "Merlot Wormgrove Bone". I kind of thought I had a 50/50 chance of getting the one I ordered. No big deal. I felt bad for Richard. He had a lot of people calling him. Not going to loose sleep over it, but I don't think I can warm up to this one. Does have a nice Merlot color which my pic does not show well. Eric hit the bullseye on these however. Great build quality, and good walk & talk.

I'd love to see one of each scale variety, so keep posting them. Really enjoy looking at the variations.

Re: Red Trout Knives
Couple to add to the mix. Couldn't be happier with the way these turned out.
Re: Red Trout Knives
I'd love to track one of these beauties down if anyone has an 'extra', hehe.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Re: Red Trout Knives
My two beauties. I had ordered a blue rope and abalone. The blue rope was set aside but the abalone was sold. Richards daughter offered me the choice of three remaining knives, I choose what turned out to be the dark red pressed stag bone. Sorry @FarSide, it came in a box labeled as bocote wood. These really are incredible knives. Great vision by Richard and wonderful work by Eric.
