Antique J Casson pocket knife. Is it a Bulldog?
Antique J Casson pocket knife. Is it a Bulldog?
Hi. I am new to this forum and I joined it because I have found an antique J Casson & Sons pocket knife in magnificent condition. It is clean, undamaged and razor sharp. It also has a Bulldog image on the main blade. I am wondering if it is a Bulldog pocket knife. The sides appear to made of either bone or ivory and it has what looks like a silver bar in one side. I understand that J Casson & Sons manufactured from 1892 to 1919 in Sheffield, England.[image]

Beautiful little whittler pattern knife. Ivory handles are a big plus. Levine's Guide says c. 1893. The lack of the word "England" in the stamp would put it right in that time frame before the 1890 tarriff act required a country of origin stamp. Knife has nothing to do with the more modern day Bulldog knives.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

Beautiful vintage Sheffield sleeveboard whittler with ivory handles and no cracks. A very fine example of vintage Sheffield workmanship which has never been surpassed.

I have decided to sell my Casson knife but I am not yet familiar with how to go about it.
