He started out making one of a kind custom knives and eventually started making special order runs by hand under the Cripple Creek name in 1981. He specialized in high quality hand made limited runs for clubs and organizations. Hey FRJ, jumbo trappers are one of my favorite patterns. Your Cripple Creek knife is a real head turner. I like it!!! Thanks for showing it off. Steve B.

PS Really liking that buffalo shield too.
Steve B.
Keep your edge sharp, otherwise you just can't cut it.

Looking for Carrier Cutlery and early Robeson with Elmira tang stamps.

Very nice. I've been collecting Cripple Creek/Cargills for a while. That 1983 honey bone with two blades is a pretty limited production. Yours has the large etch so only 25 made. Here's some production info from one of Levine's guides.

Thank you for that information, bkazz5. I really appreciate it. I had no idea the production was that limited.
I hadn't thought about it really. Well, I guess I wont sharpen it. :D
I have Levine's 3rd edition. I'll look in there.
I have a few other big knives. Maybe in the next day or so I can put some together for a comparison and get a picture.
Thank you for your post and your picture. ::handshake::

That one’s a sure enough looker. Very nice!

You are welcome. You can see on the production records there was a small etch and large etch. Here is an example of the small etch.

Now that's what I call a trapper pattern knife Joe & bkazz5...
stunning stag and bone on the both of em !!!
I believe some of the early knives Bob put his mark on are
some of the best made folder's there is !!!
Joe & I discussed that in a pm and now that he has above knife,
I bet he agree's with me.
But Joe, when it comes to Cripple Creeks on this forum, bkazz5 is the go to fella !!!

Thank you, Will, for the nice comments. Much appreciated.

And I do agree that these Cargill folders are some of the best.

And a tip of the hat to bkazz5. I really appreciate his time and valuable input in this thread.
He is obviously very familiar with Cripple Creek. Thanks bkazz5.

Thanks again, Will.

bkazz5,

What Levine's book is that from? Or is it in all of his books? I have 2 of his books at home but I don't recall, off hand, seeing this listing. Thanks!

I have Levine's #3 and there is a one page article by Houston Price about Cripple Creek knives. Page 122
There is no specific production data.

Not sure what edition it is but here's the cover. She's a little worn. There are a few pages dedicated to Cripple Creeks in this edition. And another pic. This is kind of the smaller version of the jumbo trapper. Cargill referred to this as a LI 1 dog leg jack . You can see in the production list the knives are listed as LI-1, LI-2, etc. The LI stands for Little Indian. Alot of Bob's knives had Indian themes.

Yes that jumbo trapper is great! I think everyone needs at least on Cargill Cripple Creek in their collection. Especially if you enjoy slip joint knives!
