Union pocket knife find

The KA-BAR brand originated as a trademark of the Tidioute Cutlery Company. Tidioute was later taken over & renamed the Union Cutlery Company which continued making the brand until Union eventually adopted it as the company name in 1952. Cutco Corporation later acquired the company in 1996.

Union pocket knife find

Post by feedthefarm » Sat Mar 18, 2023 6:18 pm

Here one I found in dads tool box. Cleaned up and oiled, it has good snap now. Looks like the pen blade was broke and reshaped at some point. Not sure if the scales are original… one is brown, the other is black.

So the different color scales is original?
What’s the year range of manufacture?

That is a rare pattern knife! I'd say the handle scales are original and the knife was probably made 1915-1923. I have a well used KA-BAR version, pattern is hard to find. Other than the broken pen blade it looks in very nice condition!

Great pattern and find!

Here is another one that I believe is a Union arch tang stamp. I can’t make out all the letters but just enough.
Rusty with blade wobble, but still has snap after all these years. I love the match book nail pull.

That op knife is fantastic!!!

It’s not uncommon at all to find mismatched scales on older knives. Different bone took the dye in different ways, and Back then they didn’t care. These were tools back then, not collectors items. Those old guys would probably think we were crazy for collecting their old knives. lol.
