I was wondering if these could be original handles/scales or if it was re-handled? Most of the 1177 I see online are black handles.

Just guessing, but I'd vote it being a re-handle.
With a model number stamped into the tang, that put's it as 1969 or later, since 1969 is when Cole-National started putting model numbers on Kabar knives. That handle just does not look like any 1970s factory handle material, at least to me. The 1177 was made from the "mid-60s" to a discontinued date of 1978.
Dating based on Kabars for sale NIB on fleabay with no model number and 1968 on accompanying paperwork and model numbers on knives with 1969 on their accompanying paperwork.
