Ka-BAR Winterbottom?

The KA-BAR brand originated as a trademark of the Tidioute Cutlery Company. Tidioute was later taken over & renamed the Union Cutlery Company which continued making the brand until Union eventually adopted it as the company name in 1952. Cutco Corporation later acquired the company in 1996.

Ka-BAR Winterbottom?

Post by Ridgegrass »

Does anybody know if there were ever KA-BARS with Winterbottom jigging? This old 5-1/4" Dog Head is worn down but it looks like it might have been WB when made, especially the pile side. I don't recall ever seeing any UNION knife in WB jigging? Gene?
Thanks all. J.O'.

Looks like well worn and distressed stag to me.

I second the stag suggestion.

Marco: Here it is, a hoss of a knife. I can't remember what I traded for it, maybe a Remington about 30 years ago. J.O'.

Marco: Whoops! Did I show the wrong knife? Duh! I'll dig the worn stag one out and post the blade pic tomorrow. J.O'.

Whew! I'm so glad you posted this disclaimer J.O'., I was about to post that I thought it was a different knife due to the bottom bolster's shape and lanyard hole and the over-all coloring, but I wanted to be sure before I embarrassed you, sorry. ::handshake:: I actually had to go back and forth between the pictures a few times to be sure.
No rush on the correct pictures bud, maybe some time when you come across the knife again for cleaning and oiling. 8)

Marco: Here's the UNION (Winterbottom or stag?) Thought I posted it today. Must've gotten lost in the ether. And a couple more, same pattern, a VIKING and an OLCUT. The old UNION blade is a bit thicker than the others. Some were also marked, KA-BAR. I know Colonial had one too, don't know if it was the same quality or maybe a contract from UNION?? ::handshake:: J.O'.

Yep, that's the one J,O', thanks bud.
I love that shape of frame, especially if it's attached to a single spear-point blade, which btw are hard to come by.
All 3 of yours are beautiful knives man! 8)
