Walk yer Dogs
Re: Walk yer Dogs
Couple more KaBars here. any info re these knives would be appreciated, ages, etc.
Re: Walk yer Dogs
Looks like Queen dogs to me. KA-BAR/Union Cut never made some of those models with dogs. Can't see the marks on the hunters to give you dates, the Little Hunters are about 1932-1940 by the handles, none made before then. Your "Pistol Grip" was likely made between 1923 and about 1928-30 if it has a KA-BAR stamp, the model was discontinued early on. I like the little Hunter with the scaler back, hard one to find in nice shape.
Re: Walk yer Dogs
Well here is a different one altogether. Tang stamp is Stidham's Knives Belpre, Ohio, but made in Solingen Germany. I liked the Stag and the Shield. And I have always been a sucker for the big cigar whittlers.

Re: Walk yer Dogs
Kinda thought there were more dogs in the neighborhood??
Re: Walk yer Dogs
I only have one Kabar dog shield knife. Would love to get more but not at today’s prices. I don’t know the year made but it’s in mint condition. They are beautiful knives but at today’s prices I won’t buy any more knives. It’s a shame but five years ago, this knife cost me $45. Those days are gone forever.

Just these three at the moment…
Re: Walk yer Dogs
All of these are beautiful knives !!!
You’re 3 for 3 on acquiring them !!!!

Re: Walk yer Dogs
Well if they were easy to come by, they might as well be China made! Some very nice knives here.

Three purebreds and a very curious old sheath.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

It just seems crazy to pay those prices...

Now that you mention it, it does resemble a GSP. As much as knife collectors love the dog shield, I don’t know why Kabar doesn’t use it anymore. If they brought it back at a reasonable price I’d definitely buy more and I’m sure others would also.

Very nice Ken. The long spoon is a tough one to find in such nice condition.

Thanks Wayne! That and the over-all condition are what attracted me to it.

Re: Walk yer Dogs
Thanks! I've been told by folks that know a lot more than me about Union/Ka-bar that it's from mid 1920s to pre-WWII.

It does seem like it might be older than the 1950's, after looking at it againMumbleypeg wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 12:50 amThanks! I've been told by folks that know a lot more than me about Union/Ka-bar that it's from mid 1920s to pre-WWII.
