COLT CT457 hammered pocket knives

Post by mrwatch »

Stopped at a country craft store. She had several of the COLT CT457 hammered pocket knives. Said she could not sell them at the gun shows and made me a sweet deal for three. Said I may give a couple for gifts. Each blade is different as well as the wood grain and color.

Not sure but where she placed the price tags. $10 $10, do you want one for $5, sure. On the plus side I met her husband a blade smith and forger. I asked him about his scrimshaw knife handle. not for sale but wish it was. He told me how he makes his own scrimshaw tools. I will remember that. Now if only I can remember where my engraving ball is stored? ::hmm::

I didn't realize I had OCD until I joined AAPK.

Jerry I appreciate your efforts to enhance photos posted here. It helps.

I've been told that the Colt knives are no longer being produced. Does anyone know for sure if this is true, and if so, why ?

I think SMKW put many of the former Colt patterns in the Rough Rider line.

I bought Colt knives from SMKW for about $17 that later disappeared out of their flyers and reappeared as Rough Riders at about $15. I have no doubt they are made in the same factory. Someplace on the net I read that SMKW owns the Rough Rider name. Presumably SMKW pays the owner of the name Colt to use it on knives. Logically SMKW has learned that they'll make more profit by keeping the price lower. On the other hand, SMKW might be changing the names on their knives to stir up collector sales and might advertise the same knives branded Colt next year.

Spent Thanksgiving with our oldest son in TENN. and gave one to him as a Christmas gift. He likes it. Visited the Knife Lady at the big flea market but did not find any to buy.

Is the curly thing a bottle opener? Or maybe a pot lifter?
