How well does Ganzo knives hold an edge?

Post by hard.times.lures »

Does anyone have any actual experience in how well Ganzo knives hold an edge? I believe the steel is 440C.

Thanks kindly, Bryan

I have had good luck with mine -- 440C was used by many knife companies for years & still is a great knife steel -- holds a good edge & easy to sharpen -- ::tu::

I've got three. One, I literally stripped a couple of wires with it...and I could catch the "roll" of the edge with my fingernail. I'm not convinced, that a company that makes knock-offs...like they do...are going to worry about giving the real 440 steel. Maybe leftover 440 steel and old cigarette butts. JMO

I agree, Doc. When a cheap import knife says 440C without verification, I tend to doubt it. They figure, will the owner be able to identify the steel in our blades? I doubt it. So call it anything.

It does not matter what the steel is claimed to be. A good knife steel with incorrect heat treat will not be a good blade. So forget whatever they call the steel and just use the knife and see how the edge holds up. So far 1 person says 'good' and i person says 'bad'. This thread needs more Ganzo users to post their experience.
I know that traditional style folding Rough Riders and knives made by SanRenMu arrive shaving sharp and hold their edges very well.

I'm not a heavy user, but my Ganzo knives have held up as well as any other under $50 knife. Sure, it's not going to hold the edge of a Benchmade or Spyderco, but I have not seen any difference between Ganzo and Kershaw (for example).

I have two Ganzo autos. Neither have had heavy use but I've not been able to find any flaw with the clip blade on one of my autos. The other (a chunky homage to the Italian stilettos AFAICT) came butter-knife dull and I've never gotten around to sharpening it.

So far I have not rolled the edge of the one I've used, but it doesn't get much carry. Of course, both knives barely cost me a song even with shipping. I think I'm into them both for under $25.

LTK had one of the new Ganzo FH11 knives with D2 steel tested and the results were pretty amazing. Spoiler: It really is D2 with a Rockwell hardness of 62:

Just picked up my carbon fiber Ganzo FH11. For $29 ($23 with regular handles) you get a $200 knife. Just touch the flipper tab and the blade swings open, not assisted, no springs, just smooth bearings. And lock up is tight as can be. Sharp sharp edge and pointy point.
4 3/4" size and blade profile reminds me of a Sod Buster, meaning all round tough work knife with an almost stainless steel Rc 62 blade.
So much satisfaction for under $30, i don't see how a knife lover could pass it up.

For your next Ganzo, try FastTech. Not quite as quick on the shipping because the knives come directly from China but quicker than most other China shippers and they are $2 - $4 cheaper per knife than most other sellers and it's free shipping. Power Cutlery has Ganzo knives and better shipping than Amazon unless you have prime, usually a little cheaper too.

I'm hooked on FastTech for my Ganzos. The lowest prices I've seen and free shipping which is also the fastest I've seen out of China.

They hold an edge very well. This Saturday I received my new Ganzo G707. (It is a copy of the Pro-Tec "The Don". For the $18.56 I paid, the knife is great! I'm carrying the thing for "general use" and it cuts and holds an edge better than any other "Bayonet" or "Stiletto" bladed knife costing far more. Ganzo does a fantastic job with the steel used. I love this knife! ::tu::

Buy one. You won't regret it.

I'm a skin flint. For the $8 difference, I'll just wait a little longer and order from FastTech.

Hey Monkey Man. I have one of those. It's a slick motor scooter. In fact it may have been you that prompted me to get one. I picked it up in August of 2018.

I think you are correct JerryD**_________ that's about the time I got the Orange knife -- it was my deer hunting knife this past year -- use it, wash it,use it again,& with only a few strokes on the ceramic rod, it's still sharp :) ___ the automatic is slick as a button too ::tu::

If it's worth it to you to save a few $ and you don't mind waiting for approximately three weeks for delivery, I suggest you check out FastTech. The price is $2 or $3 cheaper and they have free shipping. I tried BestGear but my experience was not up to what I get with FastTech. You may get it faster from Amazon but you're going to pay more.

If it's anything like their other knives I think you'll be happy with it.
