I’d like to have something in the $125 range like a GEC I’d use a lot, but just one. Perhaps Japanese, but likely US or German made. If I have it, it’s going to be used, so nothing just for a collection. That also makes me feel odd spending a lot.
I have a hard time breaking $70 bucks. Actually, I have a hard time with $70, I still question one I bought a month or so ago. Value is important as well as craftsmanship. $50-60 for a US Buck, German Boker and the like and I’m in. At a hundred+ I start thinking, yeah, or I could get these other two just as useful PLUS an interesting looking Rough Rider. LOL

OF, thanks again for the info, really appreciated. ::handshake::

I finally got the knife in question and I really like it. Supposedly it says, "Don't leave home without it," in Chinese script. I must say, Kizer's presentation boxes are impressive as well. If anything could cut into the American knife makers' traditional folder market, it might be off shore tactical knives.

Just my opinion but you can quote me on this.

The RR boxes are almost as amazing as their knives at the price. I'm sure that the GEC's are ten times the knife that a RR is, but that little tube they come in does not out shine the RR boxes. Imho ::handshake::

My $15 Classic Carbon Folding hunter came in a very thick cardstock box with a magnetic closure, and a formed foam insert for the knife. Hard to believe that something so cheap is not only decent, it comes in packaging better than knives that cost 10X more.

Check this box and packaging out. And this is a $125 knife. In my opinion, I think this is the knife market the S.E. Asia knife makers are looking to corner, and this is how they could best the American companies producing similar knives.

I looked up grindworx.com, beautiful selection.
Unfortunately, they have to limit my "Automatic knives" to a 2" blade only for California. :x

I haven't been here since last year so please excuse my absence. My bug has been revived and I have started picking up some new knives. One of those is a Mini Begleiter made by Kizer, one of the new high quality Chinese manufacturers. I must say i was very impressed by everything on this fine little knife! It wasn't an assisted opener or flipper but with the bronze washers it flips open easily with the thumb stud. And did I mention that It has 154CM American Crucible steel! I, like many out there have always been against buying Chinese knives but after reading the reviews I figured for $55 I didn't have too much to lose. Many of these new Chinese companies are sourcing their raw materials from the US and the around the world. They are also doing collaborations with well known knife designers. I also got a SOG made in Italy and a Cold Steel made in Japan, both quality companies.
I think China may have finally gotten to the point where they are capable of producing half way decent knives. WE knives is another new manufacturer that is putting out some pretty impressive knives. With an endless knowledge pool and access to some of the best materials from around the world there is no reason why China's quality can be right up with any other country. That said building a great knife take more than having the right materials and knowledge. It take years of experience and striving to be the best. Just an honest opinion.

Pakistan might not exactly fit into the SE Asia area, but what would you pay for this fixed blade?

I went $40.00 on a CRKT Fossil....beautiful, awesome edc which I always have in my possession and use for everything from cutting cardboard to steak, but not for drywall, lol...

My only problem with that knife is that it was made in china; that said, $40.00 would be my limit.

Good lookn' folder Mark! ::tu:: I only own 3 CRKT knives, the CEO 7096/CDN$24., the "Psych" bolster-lock/CDN$103., and the "Quill"/CDN$45. designed by Ken Steigerwalt, and I just love them. The "Psych" was a bit up there in price, but once I handled it I felt like it was money well spent. There's a few CRKT's that appear to be well made knives, a few not so much, but for the good one's if you can get past the China aspect you end-up with a pretty solid knife. BTW, ::welcome:: to AAPK! Mark! 8) The "Psych"!
