Old Timer & Uncle Henry Missing Tang Stamp

Post by TereGee »

Hello Y'all AAPKers!

Can anyone tell me if these are Schrade's Old Timer & Uncle Henry or possibly china fakes. They both are missing tang
stamps on either side of both knives and only shields that say Old Timer & Uncle Henry. So my question is really without
any tang stamp. How to tell what company made them or if they are fake?

They look like original USA made. These a probably "seconds" with the tang stamp ground off.

I have Schrade USA seconds where the tang stamp has an X X stamped over it. These might be Chinese where the etched "China" was buffed off. That would not make them fakes.

Uncle Henry model 885 .Check to see if it has pins through the bolsters.
If it does it a great chance it's China
Old timer 1250T you can see Schrade on the tang .All the USA one's have smaller lettering on the tang stamps.
I would say again China.
( Check the knives out on ebay )

Greetings again AAPKers,
Thank you folks for all your input. I am going to assume these are
factory 2nds because I forgot to mention that I have inherited quite a
few of each of them and from someone who would have never bought
them if they were made in China. They are vintage and have been kept
in storage since early 1970's. At that time Schrade was not using China
to make them yet. Also could not see any pins visible in the bolsters.
Thanks again...Much appreciated!

The main reason I said they were USA is the color of the delrin handles. They just have a different look than china one's. Look at pic's of usa and china one's side by side and you can easily see the difference.

Greetings E.B.M.,
You are absolutely correct. The new ones they sell at major retailers with the delrin handles look
similar but absolutely there is a difference between new china delrin and the U.S.A. old vintage ones
look exactly like the one I now own. You are a wealth of information. Thank you for your input and
I did not mean the ones from china are fake or counterfeit either. I just consider anything from china
is of lesser quality. I also can't see on the tangs if they have been ground off or not because I don't see
any less material from what I can tell looking at the sping or they did a really good job of grinding and
polishing. I want to thank all the AAPK members for the info on my research. Keep up the great help! ::handshake::

They look like Camillus made Schrade seconds to me. That also explains why they are not Swindon-Construction.

They surely look like the real deal minus the tang stamps . The color and hafting on the Old Timer is not what the Chinese knives look like . A bit harder to tell but the staglon on the Uncle Henry looks like the real deal too . And true , if they were made at the Camillus plant , they would have the pinned joints . The bolsters on the Chinese stuff also tends to have a slight brass tone to them which doesn't look like these photos Some of the photos I've seen posted on the bay are so inferior it's really tough sometimes as they're not well focused at all . I've seen where the focus was so bad that you couldn't make out the tang stamp . These are pretty clearly flat out missing though and it does look like evidence of a stamp being ground off on that Old Timer .
