Did western make.....

In 1911, H. N. Platts, was able to draw on his extensive friendships and family connections in the cutlery world to start Western States Cutlery and Manufacturing of Boulder Colorado. At first only a jobbing business, by 1920 construction and machinery purchases were underway to begin manufacture of knives. Through name changes--to Western States Cutlery Co. in 1953, then Western Cutlery Co. in 1956--and moves first across town and later to Longmont Colorado, the company stayed under the leadership of the Platt family until 1984. In that year, the company was sold to Coleman, becoming Coleman-Western. Eventually purchased by Camillus in 1991, Western continued until Camillus expired in 2007.

Did western make.....

Post by Colonel26 »

A scout/camper knife in the Boulder, Colorado era with carbon steel blades?

I have one here, Colonel. Sorry about the lousy hurried pictures. I has horrible plastic covers, but a right stout knife.

Thank you Joe. That answers my question. I've seen lots of stainless ones but I'd much rather wait on an old carbon one.

Amen to that. They're built like a tank. This one has a thick center brass liner that is cut down in the well.
I hope you get better covers.

Here's mine with a different shield. I agree, they are a very well made knife.

WB that sure is a nice one. I've never been a big fan of scout knives. But I'm a sucker for Westerns, but some how the old carbon Western scout knives speak to me.

I guess i'm kind of the opposite Colonel, I love scout knives, but never really been a huge fan of Westerns. I do kinda like this one, though.
