Western 425 Stockman with Punch

In 1911, H. N. Platts, was able to draw on his extensive friendships and family connections in the cutlery world to start Western States Cutlery and Manufacturing of Boulder Colorado. At first only a jobbing business, by 1920 construction and machinery purchases were underway to begin manufacture of knives. Through name changes--to Western States Cutlery Co. in 1953, then Western Cutlery Co. in 1956--and moves first across town and later to Longmont Colorado, the company stayed under the leadership of the Platt family until 1984. In that year, the company was sold to Coleman, becoming Coleman-Western. Eventually purchased by Camillus in 1991, Western continued until Camillus expired in 2007.

Western 425 Stockman with Punch

Post by lentuk »

I have a thing for punch knives, maybe it was watching my Grandfather put a new hole in his belt or some sort of horse tack but the way he used that punch always amazed me when I was little.
I just recently acquired this 425, not too much can be found on the web about it, I found the 426 but not the 425.
Hoping maybe someone here has any information.
Was it just a variant of the 426 Stockman with a punch or??

The 4xx series of bone stag stockmen's knives came out in the 1960 catalog.

422 - 2 blades - a master clip blade and a pen blade
424 - 3 blades - master clip, pen and sheepsfoot
425 - 3 blades - California clip, spay blade and punch
426 - 3 blades - Master clip, sheepsfoot and spay blades

Only the 426 survived to show up in the 1968.
