A place for every one to post their small western knifes .

In 1911, H. N. Platts, was able to draw on his extensive friendships and family connections in the cutlery world to start Western States Cutlery and Manufacturing of Boulder Colorado. At first only a jobbing business, by 1920 construction and machinery purchases were underway to begin manufacture of knives. Through name changes--to Western States Cutlery Co. in 1953, then Western Cutlery Co. in 1956--and moves first across town and later to Longmont Colorado, the company stayed under the leadership of the Platt family until 1984. In that year, the company was sold to Coleman, becoming Coleman-Western. Eventually purchased by Camillus in 1991, Western continued until Camillus expired in 2007.

This is a tiny Western, but it is a fixed blade. Does it still qualify??

The title does say “small” Westerns, and that definitely qualifies! Pictures make it look like Andre the Giant holding a regular knife lol.

Thank you for the kind reply’s. I am thinking it was a novelty/child’s or sales sample knife. I have never seen any info on it. I bought it from AAPK I think, but am not sure 😅
Fully agree that the cracked ice is a great looking handle!!

It's a No. 51 Midget. 2-1/4" blade. 4" OAL. Came dressed in either composition pearl (as shown here) or in "goldstone". 1941 only.

There were 2 other midgets, 1941 only also -
-- the No. 50 Midget Hunter, a 39 or 40 pattern skinner, with a 1-5/8" BL 3-1/8" OAL. also composition pearl or goldstone
and
-- the No. 52 Midget, 1-1/2" blade similar in shape to the No. 51 with an OAL of 3-1/4" and a horse head pommel. Tenite handles with no specification as to in what colors the handles were available. Probably the same colors as the 48/58/68BGH, which was orange, yellow and green.

I own one small western 6504 whittler and can someone tell me why it’s not the usual whittler configuration? Just curious! Jimbo

Similar blade configuration as a Camillus 72 pattern. They call it a whittler I guess because it has a coping blade.

Thanks Roger, a coping blade is definitely a whittlers best friend. I just never seen a knife called whittler with that blade setup. Oh well, lots of knife stuff to learn out there for sure!
Happy new year!
