In My Lifetime

Post by dlr110 »

This is not a story, but an excerpt from one of my unpublished books I've been working on.
It's sort of a poem reflecting on some of the beauty in God's creation that I've been privileged
to see during my Navy career. Just felt like sharing.
This is the book cover.

In my lifetime, I’ve stood silently in the shadows of great mountain
ranges, and gazed upwards at their majestic beauty and grandeur.

.
I’ve flown five miles high and as I looked back down at the splendid
beauty of GOD’s creation I recalled Genesis 1:31 “And GOD saw
everything that He had made, and behold, it was very good.”
.

.
I’ve sailed across the vast oceans of the world and gazed upon sparkling waters
as the last, fleeting rays of sunlight, faded below a distant horizon, and there were
no words to describe what my eyes were privileged to see.
.

.
I’ve witnessed the rich colors of a new rainbow, after a raging storm on the Mediterranean Sea,
and as it stretched across a clearing sky to a distant point I wondered, how Lord?
.

.
Having seen all these beautiful creations of GOD’s own hand,
dare I now imagine how glorious Heaven will be?

David, Your superb photos and writing gave me pause. I'm thinking of the countless people, perhaps millions and especially youth, who never see the world which has been provided for us. Locked into gritty urban environments, soul-deadening environments, providing no contact with the beauties of the natural world generations pass unknowingly. I once came across an apartment complex where resident children were not permitted to play on the grass. How perverse.

Just came across this, David...and I'm glad I found this addition. Some wonderful thoughts, true words and awesome photos. Thank you for sharing your inner-self with us, David. ::handshake:: You have a gift for placing words, thoughts and pictures into great perspective, and they gave me pause as I reminisced of my own travels throughout parts of the world I was fortunate enough to have visited and experienced.
