pressbutton 5" switchblade
pressbutton 5" switchblade
Anyone know how to take a pressbutton knife apart? Do they use the swindling? type hinge pin? I know some schrades do and I had one I couldn't get apart.

Re: pressbutton 5" switchblade
The 5 inch pressbutton I have has 2 small pins thru the liner and into the back of the bolster to hold it on. I removed the scales then took small blade between bolster and liner and popped it off. I took scales off first so I wouldn't break them. If you would want to part with it I mite be interested . I like to tinker.
Re: pressbutton 5" switchblade
Isn’t there an authorized Press Button repairman around here? He can probably fix it.

There is, but he doesn't give out information that could be used to damage knives.
Didn't he repair a bunch of knives for you?

Re: pressbutton 5" switchblade
Well when that guy shows up who knows how to make and repair authentic step pins and blade bushings let us know. Surely an authorized factory repair woman or man would know and be able to give out advice.
Here is a great idea; why doesn’t someone post information on how to fix that knife?! That’s a GREAT idea.

I’m not authorized as a Factory Repairman, but I am learning how to repair knives and I want to learn.

Re: pressbutton 5" switchblade
Thanks. A lot of it seems pretty easy. Take out the pins work on any issues and put it back together. It seems anyone can do it.
These older American are tough. Can you tell us how you make pins for the old Press Buttons? Like the large frame models and the smaller double buttons?

On a micro lathe, with dimpled ends. I have a shop dedicated to knife repair with $50,000 plus worth of machinery and tools.
Go away Charley- you're just here to stir up trouble.

Thanks. Maybe your info will help the original poster and me on my path to learning. You’re a gentleman and a scholar.
I recently bought a small anvil and a cutlers stiddy. It’s going well so far. The Italian and German knives don’t seem to hard to work on. These old American tho, wow they are really tough! I could see why many guys don’t like working on them!!

Re: pressbutton 5" switchblade
I can repair any knife, Charley. You know that, because I have repaired dozens for you.
Press buttons are not my favorite knife to work on, but I certainly can. I have a few in the shop now.
I'm really getting tired of your demeaning remarks. You have been banned from the forum you mentioned-how are you reading old posts?

You're accusing me of being a thief?
That's way out of line, but it's par for the course for you.
As I have said many times- you're a very good researcher, but you have a problem.

Gentlemen, I'm sorry that you two have history but this is a knife forum and not a gossip rag. It is about pocket knives and not hurt feelings. It would be knice for the rest of us if we could keep it that way. Thanks.
Re: pressbutton 5" switchblade
I agree. Thanks and let’s keep the hobby a positive place for fun rather than trying to ruin it.
Have a great weekend!

BJH- sorry for all the diversion.
Back to your knife- I don't suggest trying to take it apart. I don't even like to work on those (though I most certainly can.)
