Acquired From Mark Erickson's Mexico Find
Acquired From Mark Erickson's Mexico Find
A friend and I bought 14 knives from Mark's big Mexico find. The 6 pictured are in the original wrappers with 4 in original boxes. The other 8 are loose. The wrappers are sticking to the knives and I am not sure if the wrappers should be removed, leave with sticking wrappers as found or clean up with oil? They all have tarnish and I have only tried the unwrapped knives and they are kind of sluggish from 60 years of storage, a bit of oil will solve the problem. My question is what should we do about the sticking wrappers. Help from the forum would be greatly appreciated. I have heard for years "as found" is preferable.

HI I have used lighter fluid to get sticky stuff off but the best I have found yet is Insta clean found at Psfhobbies on ebay
it takes off old stickers like magic and never has hurt anything I've used it on even old tags from 50 years ago doesn't smell bad and has a pump bottle
pretty cheap too

I've never had that problem, but I can't help but thinking if the wrappers are sticking to the knives, nothing good can come of that. I use WD-40 whenever I need to remove any kind of sticky, gluey, or gooey substance, and it has never let me down yet. And, it has never damaged a knife that I am working on.

I would definitely get the sticky stuff off.
Pocket, fixed, machete, axe, it's all good!

Document each knife in the wrapper with pictures, and get rid of the wrappers.

Anyone else acquired any knives from the big Mexico find? About to pull the trigger on a few more. Will post them at some point.
