When I was about 14 my older brothers girl friend gave me a small switchblade she bought while in Europe. I cherished that knife for years until one day the spring broke while a friend of mine was playing with it, never let him forget it either.
Over 20 years later I purchased a Hubertus auto with a broken spring at a local flea market, I'd never repaired a knife but I did replace the spring with one I made from a wire style spring from a 1957 Chevy seat spring.
That started me on a path to knife making.
