Swiss Master Series question

Colonial Knife was incorporated in 1926 by three brothers; Antonio, Domenic, & Fredrick Paolantonio. It grew to become one of the largest pocket knife manufacturers in the US during the 1960s. The company shut down in 1998, but was back into production under the Colonial Cutlery International Corporation in 2001. Colonial Cutlery International, Inc. brand is the imported line of knives and tools while the U.S.A.- made products fall under the Colonial Knife brand.

Swiss Master Series question

Post by tangstamp »

Hey, does anyone know what high carbon steel was used in the Swiss Master series? Was it 1095? Thanks.

I believe it was 1075.
I seem to recall a conversation with Steve Paolantonio (Bobby's cousin) that they used 1075 on all their knives....

Hey guys...1075 on all knives, completely not true!
Carbon steel used was: 1010, 1025, 1050, 1055, 1065, 1075, and 1095 for top of the line stuff like the Old Cutler line, and our Lock back series # LB-95, and our LB-125.
As a matter of fact, the whole Swiss Master Line was 420 STAINLESS STEEL!!
Along with 420, we used 440 A an B Stainless Steel on our top of the line Swiss Series.
This line had hidden assembly rivets, and consisted of the stock #'s 2003, 2005, 2006, and the bigest one had 8 blades and was our # 2008!!
I think it's wise for you gents to leave the technical questions to me!

I'm a bit suprised you guys didn't ask me this question.... ::shrug::

We've yet to become accustomed to having a Colonial expert at our beck and call. Kind of novel around here but I like it. More good info from The Man. ::ds::

Maybe we need to start an "Ask Bobby" sub-thread in the Colonial forum, so the technical Colonial questions can go right to the source.....of course there are one or two others around here who know a thing or two about knives as well I think.... ::hmm:: ...and I would hate for them to feel like their input was not wanted or appreciated just because Bobby is a frequenter of the site.... ::undecided::

O.K., I feel a bit better now....
Consider this guys, when I got serious about my family business and started asking technical questions, the foreman we had were already OLD TIMERS!! I worked and talked to foreman after foreman and watched them retire one, by one, by one, for 30 years!!
I offer this here and now...If there is another PERSON or soul alive that can add to my info or that can elaborate on my historical background, I would be so happy and would listen to every word they spoke! I would never be insulted by an individual that had factual info
that would equall or surpass mine and I absolutely welcome from ANYONE that will correct me and help all of us have a clear understanding about my company! PLEASE, feel free to add your comments or facts that will help us all. This comes from the bottom of my heart..

May as-well toss this in here too.
The back of the tattered card shows several different patterns.

The pack is from the mid '70s.

Hey gents, sorry for getting back so late; my wife's eye surgery recovery has been slow and consuming most of my time taking time for my honey. She's always taken care of me so now it's her turn.
It looks like we have some great "Swiss Master" collectors here so I'll put in my two cents!
My solid FLA buddy Scott has shown us a # 4808 surface imprint Swiss Master in excellent condition! Next pic is a #4804 "Mountain Guide", a nice item in the swiss family... ::tu::
Joe (my N.C. pal) shows us a # 4802 "Sportsman", under "The Knife" title..Colonial was always looking and searching for the bigger and better Swiss Knife" line. The two blade jack next to it is a # 610, that we made for years, in so many versions...
Now cutty comes in with a nice # 1405 blister pack, obviously in prestine condition...
He also shows us a # 4802 "Sportsman", with a well worn surface imprint..... ::nod::
Now, here comes Joe again, with the top of the line Swiss Colonial line 2000 series. This one's a # 2006 Swiss Master and a beauty at that! ::groove::
And the baby of them all, our infamous # 4801, 2 blade honey named "The Executive".
Nice swiss collection guys!! Thank you all for showing us the Colonial Swiss family!!
