hey guys....
thought we could use a spot to talk KERSHAW topics and questions and general info on KERSHAW...

found this info while doin a lil research a while back......PLEASE FEEL FREE TO ADD...
especially PIX ::super_happy::
and NEW RELEASE INFO ........ZERO TOLERANCE ...........etc.........

In 1977, three years after launching the Portland, Oregon, company, Kershaw Knives was purchased by Kai Cutlery Corporation of Japan. Production of Kershaw designs took place at Kai facilities in Japan until 1998, when Kai USA opened a new manufacturing plant in Wilsonville, Oregon. Pete Kershaw, as president of the Kershaw Knives division, directed American operations. Expanding again in 2003, Kershaw opened new production facilities in Tualatin, Oregon, where the Kershaw branch is now headquartered.

By 1983, Kershaw's guaranteed-for-life knives included fixed blades, pocket knives and fishermen's fillet knives and with Kai's marketing assistance had become well known in both American and European markets. In 1990, Kershaw began production of dress knives and handcrafted American Stag knives. A limited edition series of scrimshaw-handled knives by artist William Alexander expanded in 1991. Technical innovations such as a patented liner blade locking system and a lever action one-handed opening feature generated two new product series in 1995.

New concepts led to many of Kershaw's most popular products, such as the Alaskan Blade Trader, a patented gut-hook skinning knife introduced in 1996. In 1997, a new Kershaw multi-tool included one-handed blade opening and was the first to offer adjustable built-in pliers. Knife maker Ken Onion joined the company in 1998. The Ken Onion Random Task knife, with a patented assisted opening feature called SpeedSafe, won the American Knife of the Year award from "Blade Magazine" in both 1998 and 1999.

The remarkably different Kershaw E-T, or external toggle knife, another patented Kershaw concept from 2005, combined safe blade locking with easy ambidextrous one-handed opening. Metal injection-molding processes contributed to the distinctive blade design, and advanced machining methods were used in the creation of the knife's 3-D textured grip. Kershaw designers contributed to the new Kai division ZT (Zero Tolerance) begun in 2006. ZT continues the traditions of Kai and Kershaw Knives in the development of advanced tactical knives for policemen and military personnel.

To properly initiate this thread dedicated to Kershaws (there are actually two more) I think it only appropriate I post my latest Kershaw.

It's a Japanese made DWO 3000. I have a Chinese mfg, no name clone that was sent to me in a POS roundtable and the knife infatuates me. I decided I wanted the real thing and since this model is discontinued, I ended up with pink.

Alright, another thread dedicated to Kershaws! I'm in! ::tu::
I've already posted these elsewhere, but if we're startin' up a new Kershaw thread, that gives me an excuse to post them again, right? All three of these are made right here in the USA....

First up is my most recent pick-up which hasn't left my pocket since I got it 3 weeks ago...the Knockout. This one has what I think Kershaw is calling a "sub frame lock", the handles themselves are machined aluminum for light weight, but the section of the frame that functions as the frame lock is stainless steel for strength. Awesome knife, love it!

Next up is the Storm II...this one is a straight up frame lock, real heavy duty workhorse of a knife

Last but not least is the Whirlwind, a time tested model by Kershaw, similar to the Blackout. It has the hole cut outs in the blade similar to the older version of the Scallion. This one utilizes a liner lock.

Josh -- That's a nice pile ya got goin' there.

Cutty -- That ZT's a brute.

I've targeted these three for the near or semi-near future. It's difficult to be patient.

The Chubby looks like the Half-Ton, except for the shape of the black part on the handle. Also the Chubby is made in Japan instead of the land which shall not be named and it's discontinued.

Seller's pictures.

been using the ECHELON for a while now as a EDC.....
really LIKE IT ......LIGHT....AWESOME BLADE...HANDY SHAPE.

DISLIKES:
needs to have a flipper.....
the thumb stud needs a diff shape or knurling of some type..........
the 1st run blades were WAY COOLER LOOKIN...........(bring em back, JACK! )

NEW ISSUE- :mrgreen: ....The low ride pocket clip can get wedged in pocket so low(ON RIM OF POCKET)...YA CANT GET IT OUT ::doh:: :mrgreen:
has happened to me like 3 times now ......had to take other hand grab pocket and then with right hand YANK it out.......clip simply rides TOO LOW at times.......still LOVE THE KNIFE......just an issue i thought i would share......may swap it out with another model if possible ::tu::

anywho just thinkin out loud ::super_happy::

When I get my PC out of the shop & can access my hard drive with all my pics, I can post some of the old ones I have.

One of my favorites is the original Black Horse.
The new ones are different & there was a smaller one called Black Horse II, but I like the first one the best.
I will post mine after anout 30 years of fishing & hunting. :lol:
Still shavin' sharp! ::tu::

Hmm. Six weeks and no action. Apparently the Mod's don't do Kershaws. :lol: ::shrug::

I posted on the first page that the Chubby 1440 was on my wish list. Well, my wish has finally come true. Picked up this translucent blue this past week. I love that little wrench shaped pocket clip.
