Re: KERSHAW KNIVES
Picked up a Twocan today. What a neat little knife. Open the first blade, you have a knife. Open the second blade, you have scissors. They're only 2-3/4" closed, including the carabiner. They're made in Japan and they don't bring much money. $20 or less depending on where you buy it. Kershaw sharp of course.

I use my Two-Can when I go fishing.
The scissor action cuts fishing line quickly, cleanly & more accurately than a knife.
Every fisherman should have one!

Re: KERSHAW KNIVES
Those of you who know me pretty well, know my affinity for Kershaw knives, especially the wood handled ones from the Officer Ranch series introduced in the early 1980s. I was working in a cutlery store when they were introduced and liked them immediately. Over the years I have EDCed several patterns from the Officer Ranch series including the DWO & the Black Horse. But my two favorites are the Wild Turkey and the Big Joe. I still EDC a Wild Turkey (#4150), usually one I have customized with bone handles.
There was a variation of the Wild Turkey that came with a ATS34 blade (IIRC), but it had a stainless steel handle. I bought one but the handle did not feel good to my hand, so I gave it to my son who collects metal handled knives (among others).
Today I found a new Wild Turkey on ebay, one with the traditional handles, but with a Damascus steel blade, The Damascus has a VG10 steel core.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kershaw-Wild-Tu ... true&rt=nc
I can't wait until I gat this bad boy, put some bone handles on it and then I will have a new Wild Turkey EDC!

Early to mid 1980s for sure! Those were good knives, solid with really good steel.garddogg56 wrote:Dale; What can you tell me about this sweet Kershaw 2050 half lock back half slipjpint. It was a friends hunting knife his nephew just gave me I believe she s early 80's vin

I think Kershaw used a lot of AUS-8A back then. Better, IMHO than the AUS-6 they use a lot now.
I think they stopped making those because they have a lot of metal in them, so they are heavy and more expensive. I think that knife new was between $35-$40, circa 1983.
There were several models built with the wood inlaid handles; some had a single blade, 2 or 3 had two blades and there may even have been one with 3 blades, but I don't recall for sure, that was a long time ago!

Re: KERSHAW KNIVES
Here is a pic of the Damascus Wild Turkey I promised:
These are a couple I got in the 1980s when I managed the cutlery store.
The 5200 is one of the early models Kershaw made.
The DWO is part of the Officer Ranch Series. It was originally black but I changed the cover. The Lil' Zane is another of the Officer Ranch series. A great key chain knife! This is my wife's favorite flexable fillet knife. I lost this one to her.
I ought this one when I saw they had moved fillet knife production to China.
This was one of the last I got of the Japanese fillet knives.
I love this knife & have had it in my pocket since I got it!These are a couple I got in the 1980s when I managed the cutlery store.

Don't own one of those Kershaw knives yet but with all this knife candy you've been showing I might have to change that status. Those are some pretty cool lookers!

Re: KERSHAW KNIVES
They're like potato chips, Squirrel. You can't have just one, especially if your first one has the SpeedSafe feature. If you ever break down and get one, may I suggest you start off with a Leek or a Scallion.
There are tons of patterns to choose from, most of which are single blade. If the SpeedSafe feature doesn't get you, the "Kershaw sharp" blade will. It's almost like carrying a straight razor in your pocket.

Re: KERSHAW KNIVES
Been awhile since anyone added to this thread...so...here's one that I haven't seen posted before...It's an original Kershaw Speedform (as opposed to the Speedform II) with Elmax steel. It was once named Blade Magazine's "Knife of the Year" (I forget which year). A little big for pocket carry, but great for the collection.

Very nice QT I especially like the Speedform, was that a limited knife??

Re: KERSHAW KNIVES
I believe it was, however I don't know the total production run number. As you can see, mine is serial number 059.
It's a cool looking knife, but, like I said, too big for comfortable pocket carry. Although this knife is surprisingly lightweight for it's size, it's definitely a handful (blade: 3.75"; OAL: 8.5").

Re: KERSHAW KNIVES
Wow...closing in on two years since the last Kershaw knife post.
I recently picked up this 1500ST, which is a model I had never seen before. Is it rare or am I just not looking in the right places? Love the big, part serrated wharncliffe blade, pocket clip, liner lock and lightweight linen Micarta. Seems as though my Chill and Leek have a new companion to share the EDC duties. Closed Length = 3 5/8"
