Sakai made?

Kershaw began its foray into the knife business sometime during 1974. The company was originally based in Portland Oregon, but most early knives were manufactured in Japan. The first US manufacturing plant was opened in 1997 & the company currently offers knives made in the U.S., Japan, & China. Pete Kershaw (an ex Gerber salesman) started the business.

Sakai made?

Post by cody6268 »

I know some time back, Kershaw had a model they called the Two-Can, a novel two bladed knife, which had one Wharncliffe blade, and a second that could be deployed to turn the knife into a pair of scissors. G. Sakai, a venerable Japanese maker continues to offer a virtually identical knife, also made in Japan, called the Musashi.

Other than Kershaw markings, the only major difference is that the Sakai shows a full patent number, 6,877,229, which is assigned to G. Sakai. The Kershaw instead just shows "Patent Pending".

So was the Two-Can simply a rebranded Sakai?
