Robeson Bone Handled Gunstock Lobster

The first Robeson knives were imported by Millard Robeson from England and Germany exclusively. This continued from 1979 until 1896 when Robeson began manufacturing knives in the United States. Since inception, the company has gone through several reorganizations & eventually ended up as a Queen Cutlery brand.

Robeson Bone Handled Gunstock Lobster

Post by RobesonsRme.com »

Bought this off EBay this past week.

Not mint and these photos are as delivered. I’ve done nothing to it except photograph it.

I‘ve always wanted a bone handled version of this pattern. Missed a mint one on EBay a few years ago after I deferred to a friend that had actually seen it first. Then, he didn’t even bid. I gave up that particular courtesy.

Three inches, closed.

Pattern number is 642082.

Master tang stamp is, ROBESON /ShurEdge / U. S. A.

All other blades stamped R C / CO.

Coined brass liners.

All pins are peened steel and were never spun.

Patina with some original finish. I don’t think the blades have ever been used or sharpened.

Beautiful Robeson worm-grooved bone with Federal shield. No chips or cracks.

Monstrous snap opening and closing on all blades.

Pleased to have gotten it. Trying to decide whether to use Semi-Chrome on it or not.

Charlie

Congrats Charlie, that’s a great looking gunstock lobster! Amazing bone on it. Robeson’s jigged bone is definitely one of my favorites. Not a common pattern and in beautiful bone to boot. ::tu::

According to Tom Kalcevic's published data, 1916 - 1939.

Given the hammered steel pins, I'd guess closer to 1916 than to 1939.

I happen to think that only New York Knife, The originators of the Orange Blossom and so named after a New York Civil War unit, made "Orange Blossoms", but yes, it is the same pattern.

I know other makers used the term.

Mea Culpa.

While looking at the above photos in expanded mode X 2, I see there is a handle crack from the top pin to the bolster on both sides.

::facepalm::

Charlie, beautiful Lobster ::tu:: The tiny cracks are hardly visible and do NOT detract in my opinion from the overall beauty and desirability of the Knife! If you decide not to keep it I would gladly and eagerly take it off your hands

The grind on those relatively small blades? Unbelievable! Thanks for sharing, Charlie!
