Robeson #4
Robeson #4
Here is a nice old Robeson sheath and knife I got awhile ago.
Used but not sharpened. ----- 9" OA, 5" blade.
Thanks for looking.

That's a sweet looking fixed blade, Joe. Did Robeson make many fixed blades?
Pocket, fixed, machete, axe, it's all good!

Good looking knife, but I love the sheath.

Thanks so much, guys.
Redrider, while searching for a thread to put this knife in I found other threads that include fixed blade Robesons.
I searched "fixed blades" in Robeson Cutlery Company Collector's Forum.
As to how many fixed blades Robeson made, I don't know what they produced.
All I have seen are very keen to my eye.

Yes, square bottomed sheaths are something you don't see every day. That is a real nice knife and sheath.

WOW!!! That is really nice. Man, having that knife/sheath in any collection would add a significant "envy" factor. My word that is a beautiful combination.

Re: Robeson #4
Cool one Joe. Robeson didn't make many fixed blades (except military knives during WW2) until they purchased Kinfolks circa 1957 and from then until the end of Robeson in 1965 they made quite a few. The Robeson/Kinfolks fixed blades pretty much all look like Kinfolks' later models. Joe's knife is one of those late knives and is a Kinfolks pattern, likely made in the early 1960s.

The sheath is nice as has been mentioned. But I really think this particular knife pattern is not only very handsome, but one of my favorite patterns for actually using on game. Thumbs up all around.

Thank you, Wade.
This pattern appeals to me too. While I can't relate to using it on game I think it is a great all around blade to have with you. Just a bit of guard at the blade edge, if any, is enough for me, and plenty of usable blade.
Unfortunately this sissy-assed state won't let me carry it. Any blades 4 inches or longer and I, of course, become an unreasonable slashing monster.

Beautiful combo! I have a #4 with the fluted edge and stacked leather handle from the same time period. Not the same sheath, though.

Re: Robeson #4
I have no real data on Robeson fixed blade knives, but they made multiple pattern from bird and trout on up to a bowie type hunter.
They made double sets.
They had various handle materials, including some very pretty colored composites.
I was never a collector of straight knives, other than the WWII issued one.
But, Joe has a nice one there.

Re: Robeson #4
Interestingly, the old Robeson catalog reprint that David Clark published had just about everything one could think of, but no hunting knives.
It appears that Robeson did not enter that field until just after WWII and possibly not until they acquired The Kinfolks Cutlery Company.

Thank you black mamba for showing your nice knife here. It looks like it's in very good condition.
Thank you, Charlie for your input. Always great information coming from you on Robeson.
And thanks for the link. A sizable array of fixed blades from Robeson.

Dimitri, any one of several patterns would be appropriate for your sheath.

Nice sheath, Dimitri.
Much better than mine.
If you look at my sheath a previous owner carved a big fat letter "A" on the shield. So he wouldn't loose it!?!?

Thanks Joe.
I never even noticed it had an engraved letter A on it until you mentioned it, at least it was well done
