Your pictures do not show the blade well. black blade on black background makes blade blend into background. However it does not look anything like a sheepsfoot profile.
What is the closed length ?

I am interested, but have a few questions:
Is it a mini or a full size Griptilian?
Also what is the blade steel, 154CM?
I would also like to know the model number.

Thanks,
Dale

Dale, all that information is on the box label. It's a full size because a Mini-Grip is labeled as such and the model is 555HG.

Roland, Benchmade calls the blade a Sheepsfoot so that's an issue best taken up with them.

Thanks Jerry, you are the Photoshop kingdom! ::tu::
That is a good price on the knife and I like Benchmade's sheepfoot blade. ::nod::

After further consideration I realized the thumb hole opening all causes me problems with the arthritis in my thumb and hand.
I have two mini Griptillians one with the thumb stud opener and one with the thumb hole opener. The thumb hole opener rarely gets used anymore because of the arthritis my thumb. I need to look for a full-size Griptillian with the thumb stud opener, preferably the 553 tanto blade or the sheepfoot.

This Griptillian is a good buy for someone! ::tu:: ::tu::

Thanks orb67, newly posted pic shows the blade shape well. I am surprised (shocked even) that a highly respected knife company like Benchmade would mis-use the name 'sheepsfoot'. A sheepsfoot blade has a perfectly straight edge from tang to tip. This Griptilian blade has a curve giving it some 'belly' and looks to be a very useful 'all round', blade, suitable for more tasks than a sheepsfoot.

I think one has to consider that all companies have the privilege of naming their blades and knife patterns whatever they wish. Camillus calls the #72 a whittler which it certainly is not, least wise not in the traditional sense.

Originally, if memory serves, that blade pattern was called a "weehawk," a holdover from the Pacific Cutlery days.

I understand where you're coming from Roland but like Dale, I support the right of the company who made it to call it whatever they like.

It doesn't matter what anyone calls it, that blade profile pleases my eye. We're both ends of the stick, Dale. I have trouble manipulating the thumb studs. Old people --- :x

Choosing the name of an existing blade profile and applying it to this blade merely creates confusion and the knife world already has enough confusion. There is no end to other names Benchmade could have used here. Sure they have a right to use "Sheepsfoot", it is not a registered trademark, but that does not make it an appropriate use.

I agree on this being a great deal, if I didn't already have a full size Grip I would have scooped this one up lickedy split.

I don't know Benchmade or Griptilians. Does "Griptilian" refer to the handle material, nothing to do with size, blade profile, etc ?
What makes this one so good ?
Is it built thick like an XM-18, cut your way out of a downed helicopter type blade & knife ?
Or, thinner, more of a slicer/scalpel ?
I don't have a Benchmade, -- yet.

IMHO, you picked the best one (well, except for maybe the Mini-Grip  )

That's the impression I got from the reviews and other users. For my big ol' meatpaws I'm fairly sure the full-sized model will be quite perfect. ::nod::
