Triage: A black knife I never thought I would own

Post by gsmith7158 »

I never thought I would be drawn to one of these knives. ::facepalm:: As I kept looking at it though I found myself thinking that knife has just about everything you would ever need for any situation ,glass breaker, saw, seat belt cutter/gut hook, heavy duty blade and after my recent purchase of a benchmade slipjoint I am confident the knife will be second to none in the quality department. Soooooo.... she's on the way boys. I'm officially a black knife owner. ::shrug::

They are super nice knives. You're gonna love it. A lot of knives seem similar, but they are not even close.

Eveled I wondered about that blunt tip blade. What is the purpose for that?

These were designed for firefighters and EMTs. The blunt tip is so you don't accidentally stab the patient or MVA victim.

Kinda like the spey blade in a stockman. When a February-born bull calf in September is kicking the $h** out'n ya, ya dassn't want a sharp tip blade comin' back on ya. The black 'n' blue bruises and stinky stuff is bad enough. The cold beer makes it all better.

The one in my post, has an " oposing bevel". Model 916. One side is beveled on the bottom of the blade to a cutting edge. The other side is beveled on the top of the blade, but to a blunt edge. It makes a very strong straight tip almost like a pry bar.

It's kind if a specialty tool. Almost an entry tool. Aimed at police.

I have an orange triage with the sheepsfoot blade, but not black coated. I think I prefer it to the oposing beveled bladed one. With the sheepsfoot blade it is the model 915.

Yours is the "tactical version" model 917. It is the same knife. With less aggressive textured handle, and a pointy blade.

915. Spey blade. ( For not stabbing people,)
Orange or black handle, black or bright blade finish. Standard blade edge or half serated.

916. Oposing bevel blade. (For prying). Orange or black handle. Black or bright blade, standard or serated.

917. Tactical blade. (For stabbing people). Black only handle, less aggressive texture on handle. Black blade standard or half serated. Bright blade standard only. AFAIK.

All have strap cutter, all have carbide glass breaker.
