Show Us Your Latest Gerber Knife

In 1939 Joseph Gerber (advertising agency owner) had custom knife maker David Murphy make 24 sets of carving knife for some of his select customers. Catalog retailer Abercrombie & Fitch saw them and was so impressed with the quality of the knives they wanted to sell them. Thus was born Gerber Legendary Blades.

And old LB bought from the now closed store in Portland back in the 80s. The buyer gifted it to me.

I was pleased when this LST Magnum arrived yesterday. Nice shape and a no nonsense design.

I've had its little brother (the LST Magnum Jr.--about 3.5" closed) for years now, and find it to be a solid design that fits my hands well. Been meaning on trying the larger one, and will do so next month.

Nice score!

The 06 (and the Covert) are currently at the top of the list when I finally decide what auto to pick up in July when my state officially legalizes them. Currently, I'm sticking to smaller and less expensive models like the Boker Kalashnikov, Kompakt, and Colonial Blackie Collins Oxygen Tank Key.

The 06 is a strong knife! I think it is a good choice in an auto. ::nod::

cody6268,
The Magnum Jr. is a good one. I carried one for a number of years but gave my brother a box of knives, including that one. Eventually I’ll probably have to find another. There was alot to like about it.

After reading accolades of the LST here on the forums, I decided I needed to watch for one. Any info from those knowledgeable on these little knives would be welcome. Thanks in advance. Here is the one that came my way.

All I can say is that it's an older model. The one I have has all its markings etched and no model number, and the production date is 2020.

Walmart had this web-exclusive gift set on sale for $20, and I picked it up as to have some cheap working knives. These are all budget-line Chinese-made models with 7Cr17MOV steel.

The Pledge is a new model, released last year when this set was issued for the 2021 Christmas season, but was only added to the Gerber lineup officially a couple of months ago. The color is referred to as "Omni Grey", and while the blade is called "black oxide coated" it's just a fragile paint, as my Crucial hasn't aged well.

It is a fairly big knife, at just under 4.5" closed with a 3.7" reverse tanto (Wharncliffe) blade. Despite this, it only weighs just short of 3 ounces. I've used it hard in the past week or so, and it's held up well. I was surprised the edge didn't chip when I had to cut through the thick plastic nub holding the rear rubber guard on the lawnmower in place as it had broken and was being replaced. This has quickly become my favorite work knife.

The Mini Paraframe is just so-so--it took a LOT of work to get the framelock to be able to be unlocked with relative ease. It is still really tight. It is among Gerber's cheapest offerings, and in many ways, is probably viewed as a disposable knife. It has tended to be a staple of Christmas gift sets from the brand. I'm still using it ,as around the house, it's basically my go-to size, and it ain't a pain in the rear financially if I lose the thing, as they're just $10, often cheaper when bundled in gift sets.

Both knives could benefit from additional sharpening, as both were only sort of sharp--even compared to my standards of just paper-cutting sharp.

The Shard is a really nice, small pry tool. I find the angled Phillips gives it some good leverage for fairly tough screws. I'd given my original one away in the first POS Exchange I participated in here back in 2020 and really wanted another one.

I have had this gold plated version forever and I cant remember the name. I want to say late 90s and it was about the same time as the Harsey. This is preproduction with no stamp.

I dug out this Gerber Freeman today while I was looking for another knife, just wanted to share a picture.
Bought it over 10 years ago, never had the opportunity to use it, put it up and forgot about until today.
It has cocobollo wood handles and came with a really nice leather sheath.
