Kabar 1184
Don't usually by Delrin handles but this 1184 fell into my hands today for a ridiculous price. 5-1/4 ", 1/2 saber ground, nearly mint, unresharpened. Any ideas on the age? 80's? Thanks. J.O'.

May want consider having new covers that you like installed. Good pick up at a price you an like. Maybe post 1966 based on when model numbers started to be stamped on the tangs.

Re: Kabar 1184
1966 has been used for the start of model numbers on Kabar knives as that is when Cole National bought Kabar, and many have just assumed they immediately started putting numbers on knives. I include myself in passing on that misinformation.
About a year ago, I encountered NIB Kabars that had 1968 on the paperwork and no model number on the knife and 1969 on paperwork accompanying a knife with a model number on it.
So I now put 1969 as the earliest time modern Kabars started having model numbers.

Another thanks for the dating information. I have a Ka-Bar that I know little about, and that may help me date it. So's not to derail this thread, I won't post it just yet.
Nice pick-up, JO. I think it looks great as it is!

Re: Kabar 1184
The first new "good" knife I got as a kid was Christmas 1970, a Kabar 1100 stockman with Delrin handles, the pattern number 1100 was part of the tang stamp - KABAR 1100 USA. Certainly fits the '69 to 70 time frame, though my knife only proves that the model numbers started either in 1970 or before 1970.zzyzzogeton wrote: ↑Sun Jul 24, 2022 12:28 am1966 has been used for the start of model numbers on Kabar knives as that is when Cole National bought Kabar, and many have just assumed they immediately started putting numbers on knives.
