M.M. I think I am getting closer to solving the problem involving the theory of Relativity and underage drinking over Canadian inter-airspace while moving at speeds lower than the speed of light.

Marco, looking more closely I think each maker is working with the same symbol but being handmade there are some slight variations.
Yes, thanks Garry. When I looked more closely that's exactly what I thought, they're the same symbol but with very slight variations due to being hand-made. Then I added the EDIT: to my post.

Really? Do tell!
I am working on solving the problem of time travel, I have a buddy building a time machine... I just need to find an adequate power source...

Nice!!! ... Looks like it was made by Ek Knives (The John Ek Co.). I had one similar and I had one from the 40's made in Hamden, Connecticut. I had maybe 4 of them over the years, however I have not seen one for sale at a show or shop for a long long time...
I had a set of three including one for the Navy and AirForce. Just before retiring I gave those two to police officer friends who had served in those branches.

How bout all the hot-air we're spouting off with these conversations as your power source? God knows it's endless! lol!

This is a beautiful knife Garry. That's an incredibly detailed etch on the blade. I've always been curious, would you know what's underneath the paracord wrapping, a solid handle, a handle with holes like the diver's knives, something other than those choices? Thx!
Marco, After careful probing in answer to your question, I think the handle of the presentation blade is made of solid metal. However, this is not definitive. I will make further attempts to ascertain the answer without untying the cord wrap.

That's O.K. Garry, what you've discovered is all I need to know, thank you. If you want to continue for your own curiosity, might I suggest you use something like a fish fillet knife with it's skinny blade to probe between the layers of wrap, and should you feel it go all the way through then we'll know it has the holes. Up to you my friend.
Just came today. For more years than I like to think about, I've wanted a sub-hilt fixed blade. I finally found one I could afford. It's an MTech Bowie that's 15" long with a 9" blade. I have a few MTech knives (all folders) and only have an issue with one of them. This sucker is a real Hoosier. It will never get used but it scratched that "Sub-Hilt" itch that's been niggling around for all these years.
No pictures of my own yet so you'll just have to settle with the sellers picture.

Recently picked up this Western WEST-CUT, blade is 4 1/4"
Just thought the cowboy logo on the front was cool.
Absolutely very cool. Reminds me of the "Cowboy Joe" logo on the University of Wyoming football helmets as well as the image on the WY license plates from when I lived in Laramie.

Looks to be capable of "scratching" a lot more than your itch, jerryd!
Just ordered this Michigan Marbles Bowie last night. I will of course post it unsheathed upon arrival. This photo by the seller shall serve as a tease.

That's one fine pig-sticker Jerry. I know that "itch" you referred to very well, I've had it and had it satisfied a couple of times, and it's just as sweet each time I feel it. Like yourself I've admired those sub-hilts for quite awhile, and again like yourself never jumped-in due to their high prices, but now with this MTech available...

I would recommend the MTech sub.hilt any day of the week. It's a monster but it's a fine, fine knife.
