Let's See Your Camco Knives!

The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

Here's another cap lifter jack. It needs help, and I suspect it may have celluloid covers.

Nice find Dan! I was quick always to soak the knives in vinegar, or a solution called Evapo-Rust as it seems to be easier on the scales and brass fittings. I just looked on-line and see a gallon is $29 at Advance auto parts ( https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/ ). I got my 1st batch at Harbor Freight years ago and it was about $22 for a gallon back then. However, I had only used it for a short time when I was soaking a few ax heads in a plastic tub and the tub cracked and most of the gallon went right onto my kitchen floor ::dang:: (another reason I don't clean stuff inside my house anymore) ::facepalm:: ::dang:: I had it inside because it was cold outside and the chemical needs to be at 70 degrees or above to work. If a gallon is more than you need, you can also buy smaller increments but cost per oz. goes up quite a bit.

I started cleaning rust off with a wire wheel on my grinder and found it is not so hard on the blade as long as the blade finish has some wear already. It can change the color on a new shinny blade when trying to polish out small rust spots. I found Scotch Bright scratches the hell out of blade and I tend to use it on a seriously pitted blade or one completely patinaed.

Just my $0.02 worth ... ::paranoid:: or in this case maybe 'bout $0.10 ::paranoid:: in rambling on... ::facepalm::

This advertising pocket knife arrived recently in a group or lot of pocket knives that I purchased. This pocket knife now becomes my most recent example to be posted under this topic or thread. But, I did NOT purchase the group or lot of pocket knives to obtain this particular pocket knife. But, as it turned out, this pocket knife is a keeper and will be added to my general CAMCO (CAMILLUS) pocket knife collection. It is a CAMCO, one blade, one tool (a cap lifter or bottle opener), one tang stamp, 3 1/8" closed (not including the bail), tip bolsters, advertising pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says "CAMCO (over) USA" The main blade has a so-so half stop and a weak opening and closing snap. The cap lifter or bottle opener has a strong, crisp, half stop and a strong, crisp, opening and closing snap. The main handle side says "BOWMAN PRODUCTS - CLEVELAND, OHIO" with a graphic of an archer with BOWMAN below it. The other handle side says "40 YEARS OF SOMETHING EXTRA - IN QUALITY AND SERVICE" Overall, this pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. It did NOT need any cleaning at all. I took some pictures and here it is.

A recent trip to the post office produced this pocket knife. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread and to be added to my collection. It is a CAMCO, one blade, one tang stamp, 3 1/4" closed (not including the bail), florist pattern or style of pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says "CAMCO (over) USA" The main handle side says "Say it with Flowers" The other handle side says nothing, it is blank. This pocket knife has a CRISP half stop and a VERY NASTY opening and closing snap. CAMCO is a CAMILLUS brand. Overall, this pocket knife is in EXCELLENT condition. It did NOT need any cleaning at all. I just wiped it off, took some pictures and here it is.

CAMCO established in 1948.
Looks like it may be from the 1950's.
You won't get a specific date for it.

Camco are strange for me... ::skeptic:: I seem to find them in spurts... none for a long time then BAM! I find several... and of all things I have found three camp knives #450 all about the same condition... ::shrug:: Two are marked 450 on the back of the tang. They make great EDC for me to use so they are happy additions my CAMCO stash... ::nod::
