The Spark and Tempest
There is a fire in my soul
The world cannot smother,
It was kindled as a child,
And ignited by my mother.
Though the world tries to quench
This glowing, burning ember,
Though it may wax and wane,
There forever remains its glimmer.
When adversity assails me,
And the winds of trouble blow,
The breeze then hits the ember
And the fire begins to grow.
The passion for the holy,
Inside of me does grow,
And Jesus walks beside me
When the troubling winds do blow.
The troubles may be legion,
Famine, pestilence, and war,
but when Jesus walks beside me
He calms the sea once more.
The sea of doubt that tosses me
Is calmed by his scarred hand,
Fear, uncertainty, and worry,
Vanish at His Divine command.
I walk in peace untroubled,
While the tempest vast doth roll,
But when Jesus holds my hand,
It's only His peace that I know.

I started this poem in November of 2013 and was reading through my old journals in August of 2023 and the rest of the poem came pouring out.
I hope you find it inspirational or at least enjoyable.
